If you need an all around lens at a budget price, then this is perfect for you. I've gotten great pictures of NYC,helicopters, people and just about anything I put infront of this lens. The images come out sharp and vivid and the lens can also produce a great background blur. Its not a canon L series but its one of the best amature lenses out there today. I love this lens and it never comes off of my canon T3i.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Image Stabilized AutoFocus Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished By Canon U.S.A:

Many moons ago I shot weddings to help pay for college using F1's and A1's and a Blad, so I know my way around an SLR. Now days I carry an T2i and a T3i and still expect my pictures to be every bit as good (actually better) as back then. I still find myself wanting to take multiple cameras and lens' everywhere I go but some times' just one has to do the job.
For a daylight event, such as the outside Main St Fort Worth Arts Festival, that you did not want to lug around your full bag of lens', but still wanted close in wide angle shots along with great telephoto shots...this is the one lens you want on your camera. It's a bit heavy... but performs well if you don't mind the lens creep...that is that it zooms out as you carry this around your neck.It needs a zoom lock but for this kind of performance and price it's worth dealing with. Before purchasing this lens I would have normally taken my even heavier EF-S 17-55 2.8 .... probably the best general purpose Canon Rebel body type lens that you can get...that actually out performs the "L" lens' in the same range.... but tops out at 55, leaving me wanting more range. It's not as fast ( the 17-55 is fixed at 2.8 ) as the 17-55 but in daylight it does it's job well. Buy the refurbished lens.... it's a great deal.

This is the "default" lens I keep on my EOS 60D. It's got a versatile zoom range, allowing me to use it indoors and out.

Zoom is fast and quiet, images are nice and crisp.

The only real drawback is the lens creep (more like lens sprint).

All-around great lens.

creepy lens, throughout the whole range just holding it vertical. I liked the range better than the 17-85, as I tend not to go as wide. wasnt a fan of the creep, with acceptable IQ, not an L i.e. 24-105.

takes the kenko 1.4 pro which makes it go up to a 202mm f8 with a noticable drop in IQ, but makes for a cheap zoom.

I was told about this site and thought I would try it out. This lens that I bought is great, it looked brand new, works as good as any of my other lenses. I read some of the reviews and they said it didn't work good in low light. We'll I can say it works great in low light, now you have to play with the ISO, shutter, and aperture settings to get the shot you want. I have been extremely pleased with this lens and plan on buying more real soon.

I've just got it as a kit lens with Canon EOS 50D refurbished. I've read some negative comments of this lens, so I was a kind of worried until I got it. And yes, this is not the sharpest nor toughest lens of all Canon lenses. I myself have some "L" lenses to compare. But this is my first Canon "IS" lens, and I was actually amazed how I can take sharp images with less than 1/60s of seconds by hand held. I recommend this lens if you understand that this doesn't have "L" lens quality. And I bought several Canon refurbished equipment, and they never had any problems.

Great lens. Lens creep is not so cool but other than that it is built really well. I do mostly art but I have been doing some portraits and this works great. I have it on a smaller rebel body so it looks kinda funny and the lens is heavier than the body I think. For the price it's excellent. Buy Refurbished.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Image Stabilized AutoFocus Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished By Canon U.S.A:

I use this product every time i shoot now. I have different lenses, but the problem i encountered before was this. I would go to shoot an event, would pull out my 80-200mm because i wouldn't have to get close to the subject. The bad thing was, when people see that I'm shooting, they sometimes want a group photo or full body shot. The 80-200 is a great lens, but you cant do group shots. You would have to back up so far away from the subject that it would make you look very unprofessional. The 28-135 makes this possible. I can shoot whatever it is i want, when i want. The best thing is, some churches will not allow you to use flash inside. This lens makes that possible, I love it! remember this, the 28-135 lens is a great choice but understand it can get heavy. I also have the battery grip attached to my camera, so you can imagine going from light weight to slightly heavy. With everything attached, lens, shoe mount flash, battery grip, it looks awesome but can get heavy, but the weight isn't so bad. I would recommend this lens to anyone. I say go for it!

Comments about Canon Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Image Stabilized AutoFocus Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished By Canon U.S.A:

A very good everyday lens. On a recent vacation, I used this in place of the 18-55 that came with my Rebel XSi, to get additional focal length. Only once or twice did I miss having the wider end (18-28) of the zoom range. Lightweight, so it's easy to carry camera with lens with strap on shoulder or around neck. As others have noted, it does have a lot of lens creep - zoom mechanism seems very loose. Otherwise no complaints.

This isn't the sharpest, highest quality lens in the entire universe. But it's not bad. The IS works well. It has an extended zoom range. You don't have to switch lenses everytime you go above or below 70mm. It's great for when you want to be able to spontaneously take hand held photos at a variety of focal lengths.

When I got this lens I was going between it and one of the L-series lens after borrowing both and comparing the pictures I was surprised to that this lenses actually outperformed the L in sharpness and CA. After looking some some other reviews I found out that was standard performance from this lens and bought it right away. It is a great walk around lens that is on my camera 77% of the time. The only faults are its plastic construction as it's not an L-series and it tends to have a lot lens creep.

I wanted to buy a lens for an upgrade. One with different focal distances, this one for the price offered a good deal. The lens is heavy but for the price you get excelent picture quality, nice and fast focus. Great all around lens. If you don't care carrying several onces more get this lens. I bought the refurbished and it was new, at least looked new.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Image Stabilized AutoFocus Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished By Canon U.S.A:

I bought this lens for my Rebel G (35mm) and IX (APS) EOS film cameras, and I also use it on my Digital Rebel XS. I test a lot on still flower/macro like subjects, but primarily I shoot carpe-diem and urban types of scenes. I find myself indoors often enough as well.

The great thing about this lens is that it's 28-135mm with IS. IS is great for telephoto and indoors. The range the lens covers is great for 35mm film, and not too bad for APS-H, but it's really not wide at all on a crop sensor DSLR. I do fine on the XS because I have a 10-22mm ultra-wide, but you probably wouldn't want this to replace your 18-55mm kit lens.

Outdoors, the focus is impeccable. Indoors, depending on your film and light availability, the autofocus does fail at times. I haven't had any troubles with the DSLR, however. I haven't observed this with my other lenses on the film cameras, but then again they're also faster (<f/4). If you notice the focus issues you can always adjust, since the lens has full-time manual focus via ring USM.

The lens is solid, with nice rubber grips for the focus ring and the zoom. Metal mount. It's perhaps a bit too solid, since it also weighs a lot compared to the kit 18-55mm and is physically almost twice the volume (this isn't quite fair though, since the kit lens doesn't go as far). The 72mm filter size is also no-man's land, since L lenses are 77mm diameter and most other non-L Canon lenses are 52 or 58mm diameter. I stepped up to 77mm via a ring.

My friends like this lens quite a bit as well, with their DSLRs. I can barely hang on to it, it's borrowed so much...

Comments about Canon Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Image Stabilized AutoFocus Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished By Canon U.S.A:

I bought this lens as an upgrade for my Rebel XSi (450D) and I like it very much. I would have given it 5 stars if that did not have to mean "perfect." It is not a perfect lens, because it is too soft under low light conditions. Other than that, however, I have found it to be exellent. As an example of the conditions under which it is just average: Today I tried to take a picture that had to be in the shade and for which my Speedlite flash did not quite reach my subject (picture involved a very large sign on the side of a building with a person pointing to it). I tried all kinds of settings and never was able get a crisp picture (hand-held). This was disappointing, as the picture was required for a PowerPoint presentation. On the other hand, indoor shots with flash, and outdoor shots with plenty of light, are awesome: Nice and crisp with excellent color. I love the zoom range of this lens--much more appropriate than the kit lens that came with the XSi. I highly recommend this lens, but you should just know that it does not do very well in situations where you can't provide enough light, either natural or artificial. It is still a very satisfactory lens, however, especially for the price. In fact, now I kind of wish I had bought a 40D since this lens came with it and I would not have had to buy it separately. But, it works extremely well with the XSi and that would be true for any of the "Rebels."

While this lens (at least the one I own isn't) is not as sharp as an 'L' series lens it does manage to produce an above average image.

The lens creep really bugged me on this lens for some reason. It really needs a 'lock' button like most Sigma and Tamron lenses have.

It does not AF very well in low light but is fine in the daylight.

The IS works very well and makes very little noise.

This lens makes a great walk around lens.

This was my first lens for my XTi and it has done very well. I am now an assistant wedding photographer, finding myself using the 70-200L 2.8 and the 24-70L 2.8 for most of my work, but this lens has been a great walkaround lens. It is fairly light, with a very usable zoom range. The glass is high quality and the IS works well, but it has a couple drawbacks. The aperature changes through the zoom range needing attention in low light and fast action situations. The focus is not the fastest, but still does well. The controls are a bit jerky, but doesn't affect the quality of the picture, so if you have time to set up the shot, it's not really a disadvantage. Other than that, I love this lens and would purchase it again for the value. Hope you like the shots I've attached to show its capabilities!

Comments about Canon Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Image Stabilized AutoFocus Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished By Canon U.S.A:

NOTE: I have just bought this Canon, so I haven't spend enough time with the lens in order to have a complete grasp of its abilities. Before I've bought this lens I had one of the 28-300 Sigma lenses. I was disappointed with the AF and the sharpness, so I decided to move on to a shorter focal length. I am mainly a travel photographer, so I preferred one all-round lens instead of two or three other (more "specialized") lenses. As you can probably tell from looking what I've bought, I couldn't spend a lot of money on a L-lens, so I had to find something in the [...]$ range. Two lenses grabbed my attention - The 28-135 Canon and the 24-135 Tamron. After reading lost of reviews on both, I chose the Canon mainly because of the IS and the Ultrasonic focus motor....and it's a Canon after all. The first thing that struck me when I opened the box was that it has a very poor barrel construction. It is plastic and wobbles quite a lot. I don't know whether this wobbling has any effects on the focusing abilities of the lens, but still it is very annoying and makes you feel uneasy about the quality of the lens you're holding. I traveled to Puerto Rico last week and had the chance of taking a good amount of pictures there. I have to say that I'm not impressed by the quality at all. I haven't tested the Canon next to my old 28-300 Sigma, but my first impression is that the Sigma is not much worse (which is quite strange for a 10x zoom ratio lens). The IS is a cool feature, but it is a little bit unreliable. You have to take at least 4-5 pictures until you can be sure that you have at least one that is not blurry and sharp enough (and here I feel that although the IS really does some work, an IS picture can never have the sharpness of a tripod one.....even if the shutter speed is as fast as 1/10).The AF of the lens is reeeaaally good. Silent, Fast, full time manual, everything you can wish for. The best feature of the lens!As a conclusion I would say that the guys from Photozone have said it very accurately - The Canon 28-135 is a solid performer with no spectacular strengths nor weaknesses. Generally it is not a bad lens, but the quality of the pictures is definitely not on a pro level. I can't say that I'm unhappy with it because I can't really afford to buy anything better, but if you have any spare $ and you're really into photography, go for a higher-class lens.

I took this lens on a recent trip to Hawaii. It never came off of my camera. Pictures are razor sharp and the color simply pops. I had trouble holding my other longer lenses steady in moderate to low light. The image stabilization fixed that problem completely and it is amazing how well it works. This is a great all purpose lens. It is a little heavy but not a problem. The end of the lens wobbles a bit, but that seems to be common with this lens and is also not a problem. I wish I had bought this lens in the first place.

This lens can produce some nice images, but it isn't good in low light, and its images tend to be soft around the edges. The IS can help in those low light situations, but doesn't make it a 5-star product by any means. Nevertheless, I use this lens frequently for photojournalism, and it consistently produces useable images. It doesn't do anything exceptionally well, but it does a lot of things adequately.

At first, thought it was great lens. Was highly recommended. Fast AF, IS is great, and great zoom range on 1.6x crop lens, a little soft and color seems flat. Learned quickly that fixed focal lenghts in zooms was necessary for action sports in low light (Gyms an night baseball - no flash). Even with IS on, not fast enought for casual use in low light. Had to upgrade to f2.8 zooms (70-200, 120-300)for outdoor sports. Bought Canon 135mmL f2.0 for gyms along with canon 85mm f1.8and found out what an L lens and a prime can do. No real issues with 28 to 135 other than I no longer use.

It is a step up from kit lenses and the IS and focus speed are fast and spot on. On a 1.6 crop camera it covers the most used range but could go a little wider. Also it variable apature is annoying.

Now there are a variety of lenses that cover the wider range and have a constant 2.8 apeture I would hesitate before buying again.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Image Stabilized AutoFocus Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished By Canon U.S.A:

The lens is okay if you need a budget, lightweight zoom with Image Stabilization. I've used this as my only lens when lightweight travel was a must, and it did the job. However, with today's hi-mp digital bodies, this might not do the job. I wouldn't use this with a 1DsMkII, or a 400D due to their high pixel densities. On a 30D or 5D, this is a decent lens, but there are better out there.

This is a great, often ignored zoom. Colors come out beautiful, it's suprisingly sharp for the money, and it's got a good feel to it. I'm shooting an Xti and the cropped sensor turns it into a 45-216, which puts it in the most popular photo-journalism range. 45 can be a touch tight on the wide end, but it's more than made up for by its reach. This lens is only adequate for panoramas. Perfect for your daily rig, though. I wish it were faster (2.8 would be sweet), but then it's not an L, and you don't have to pay L prices either. Until Canon comes out with an applicable L EF-S [...] (16-125 f 2.8?), this is your best bet for a walkaround lens on 1.6 sensors. I'd buy it again for sure.

I owned this lens for over 2 years, before biting the bullet and getting a 24-105 f/4 "L" lens. I use the 28-135 on both a 10D and a 20D. It was a great carry-around lens and the Image Stabilization is an extremely useful feature, for those who hand-hold a lot of shots, esp toward the longer end of the focal-length range.

For *most* photos, I (surprisingly) haven't noticed any difference in optical quality between it and the 24-105 "L".

I definitely recommend this lens.

Great all-around lens. I use this for the majority of my work and switch to other lenses for special situations where this won't work. It is a fairly heave lens for it's size, and the images are slightly soft, but these are minor comments not complaints. The lens is well-constructed. I've had mine for over three years and often use it in the woods and on the trails in New England.

This lens is used on my camera 90% of the time with the exception of nature shots or lanscapes that require the extremes that this lens does not provide. Just wish I had the extra bucks to afford an "L" series lens close to this range.

This lens provides more flexibility than any another with its 28-135mm with reasonable optics for the price. If this were available in a Canon Pro level lens, it would be worth its weight in gold.
It lacks in durability, as when the lens is fully opened to 135mm, the barrel is subject to loosening with rough handling. This does not appear to be a problem except that somehow dust can enter the lens after the loosening has occurred.
All things considered, a great lens!

This lens was taken as my first lens with Canon EOS 30D. It is a wonderful product if you know the price and travel for outdoor photography.
It is not the sharpest lens in the world because of not "L" quality; however, this lens has sharp from f/8 to f/11, a great image stabilization, and valueable cost. Moreover, light weight is also good pros for your travel.
Sure, it is the best lens for the money and the range of usefullness.

I am not an expert photographer, but knew the stock lens that came with my Canon lens needed an upgrade. For an amature photographer, this lens does everything I need exceptionally well. Not having money to buy many different lenses, this 28-135, has just enough zoom and close up ability to capture all the action required for the kids weekend soccer games. The Image Stabilizer is also a great feature. The only downside I find with this lense is the size and weight. It is heavy and required a slightly larger photo bag than I originally had to carry around.

This is an excellent all purpose lens and serves my purpose, mostly travel, well. On the Rebel series its wide angle limit is the same, however, as a 50 mm lens on a film SLR camera so it is not good when a wide angle lens is truly needed. The autofocus and image stablizer functions are great. I have now owned this lens for over a year and taken it on two major trips with some 5,000 photographs.

As a photographer that is usually on the go, I like a sturdy lens that isn't too heavy. This lens isn't the lightest thing, but it's super versatile, has good stability and has a wide range for travel and journalistic photos. I have other lenses that I use, but this is the one that usually stays on my camera, since it's great for most situations. I would definitely recommend this as a starter lens if you're choosing one to begin with.

Comments about Canon Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Image Stabilized AutoFocus Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Lens - Refurbished By Canon U.S.A:

I have used this lens with my Canon 10D for more than two years and have shot thousands of images with it. I can honestly say that this lens has performed well shooting anything from landscapes to portraits and from bright sunlight to scenes lit by the moon. All my other lenses are Canon L-Series. There is a slight difference in sharpness compared to those, but I would not hesitate to use this lens beside my professional grade ones. It is not as sturdily built as an L-Series and it does not have any environmental gaskets to protect it from the weather, but then it costs a third of what the professional lenses do. It also has a slightly loose feeling to the two parts of the housing. You will need to buy your own hood and lens case if you want them (I believe Canon offers these). Other than that, I would highly recommend this lens for anyone from beginning photographer to serious amateur. You will not be sorry.
