Comments about Nikon Nikon 12mm - 24mm f/4.0G ED-IF DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Digital SLR Cameras, Gray Market.:

This is an excellent lens for DSLR video, especially in a situation where depth of field is a plus. It is sharp from edge to edge and provides a wide view without serious barrel distortion. It's also a fine lens for making stills in tight quarters on a DX body. The light weight balances well on a d300s or d7000 body. The faster 14~28 f 2.8 lens is better suited for the heavier D3.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 12mm - 24mm f/4.0G ED-IF DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Digital SLR Cameras, Gray Market.:

So, you want to buy a great wide angle lens and you're confused as to which one to buy? Since I'm a landscape photographer and owned and tried out several wide angle lenses, such as the Sigma 10-20, Tokina 12-24, Canon 17-40, Pentax 14mm prime and other wide angle lenses, I have finally found the lens I am happy with and that would be the Nikon 12-24. It's just extremely sharp and at F7.1 an A+ I just don't want soft edges in my photos and at 12-24mm this lens can compete with the best. Just in case you need a little more zoom this lens gives it to you. Autofocus is extremely accurate and CA is not a significant problem. When I first bought the lens, I was worried. Did I blow it again. And the answer is a most definite...No!

[...] I decided to give it a go. So glad I did! The first day out with this lens I went to the beach and was in 40mph gusts and was literally peppered with sand. The lens held up and all was fine but I wouldn't have been so adventurous with a brand new lens. I picked this lens for price and capabilities - not my first choice but I couldn't justify spending more with this amazing option

Comments about Nikon Nikon 12mm - 24mm f/4.0G ED-IF DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Digital SLR Cameras, Gray Market.:

Mixed feelings on this lens. Some shots were tack sharp and others appeared to be out of focus. AF is fast, Lens is light enought to carry around all day. High distortion at 12mm, but clears up some around 18mm. Still have to experiment more with it to determine if i really like it.

I purchased this from the used department about a month ago. So far, it has really produced. I wanted a really sharp lens and got it. I returned a new Tokina in exchange for this lens.

Bought it used. It's in very good condition, although it didn't have the lens hood. No big deal. Just buy one. It is well suited to landscape, and probably architecture, photography. Wide angle coverage without too much fisheye distortion.

I'm really enjoying this lens. There is some distortion at the wide angle as mentioned by other reviewers but it can be fixed to a certain degree. Picture quality is great, build quality is excellent.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 12mm - 24mm f/4.0G ED-IF DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Digital SLR Cameras, Gray Market.:

I just love this lens. From the very first time I tested it I fell in love with it. I tried to talk myself into buying a smaller & far cheaper lens - - I could not do it. Every lens I tried, tested & looked at was compared to the 14-24mm f/2.8 - - finally I just gave in. Not regretted it at all. It's a great wide angle for DX & is an extreme lens for FX. It's a win win situation.

A Real Wide Angle
By Old PhotogVerified Reviewer from Austin, TX on 8/4/2006
Pros:
Clear Glass, Easily Accessible Controls, Easily Mounted, Strong Construction
Cons:
Pincushion distortion
Best Uses:
Art, Fun, Travel

Comments about Nikon Nikon 12mm - 24mm f/4.0G ED-IF DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Digital SLR Cameras, Gray Market.:

This is a true wide-angle lens for a 1.5x digital camera - e.g., Nikon's D200. I've used the lens frequently for several weeks now and, except for noticeable pincushion distortion at its widest angle (12mm), it's a good performer. I highly recommend it if you can afford Nikon lenses; otherwise, you may wish to look at Sigma, Tamron, or Tokina lenses.
