During a recent trip to Morocco and Paris, the 12mm-24mm Nikkor Lens granted me satisfaction in all my landscape shots, and not to mention the other general use shots I used the lens for. I loved the internal focus and the image quality was a huge plus. As for the negative side, the lens didn't really do me justice in my fast/action shots and the size of the lens does put some weight to your camera. Other than that, I give the Nikon 12mm-24mm Nikkor Lens two thumbs up.

This is one of the best wide-angle zoom lenses out there for Nikon DSLRs. The range is suitable for landscapes, street-scapes, and interiors. It's a good replacement for the much heavier Nikon 17mm-35mm. Focusing with the Silent Wave Motor is super-fast and very quiet. Distortion is minimal even at 12mm, and it's extremely sharp across the entire range. Great in low-light. There is almost no light falloff.

After comparing the lenses from Tameron and Sigma, I confirmed the overall positive reviews for this lens. Very sharp, good color saturation with great shadow details, I highly recommend this one although a bit pricey compared to the off brand.

This lens has consistantly pulled its weight for me and ive had it for only 4 days. As a photojournalist with a budget, i spent everything i had, and i dont regret it.

12mm wide open has a bit of distortion when someone is very close up, but from 15mm-24mm it has to be the best lens besides the professional 2.8/f. This instantly has changed the way i see a photograph for certain situations i thought impossible.

Although this is marked as a DX lens, this works great in the 18-24mm range on a 35mm camera, with no vignetting, and great IQ. I tried it on film, I can't afford a D700.The zoom action is smooth, with no resistance. The focus ring has no dead zone, and the AF-S is much quieter than, say the 70-300mm VR, 18-200mm, or the 16-85mm.It's not perfect, and even though the construction quality is very high, I don't like the fact that to unmount the lens I have to grip it from the top part, instead of in the middle. And every time I take the lens off my camera, the lens cap makes a clicking sound and almost falls off the lens. It's because I am squeezing the ring on which the lens cap is mounted on.It's made in Japan, and it does feel better built than my other lenses. Totally worth [*]

I was torn among ALL wide angle lenses (Sigma, Tokina, and Nikkor of course( suitable for DX cameras. I have tried Sigma 10-20mm and HATED its chromatic abbreviation (CA), geo distortion. And it needed a lot of light. My confidence to Sigma dropped. I almost went for Tokina for its price/performance ratio but was afraid of its CA. I finally went for Nikkor. The result is beautiful: the color is vivid, the images are super sharp. I couldn't be happier.

I bought this lens before a trip this weekend and took a small bag of lenses with me. Except for a few shots that I really needed a telephoto for and exactly one portrait with a 50/1.8, this lens never left my camera. I was looking for the Tokina, but I couldn't find a place to try it. I finally broke down and bought the Nikon, and I'm not looking back.

The lens beautifully exaggerates perspective at its wide end, but so would any 12-24. The distortion is complex and hard to correct after the fact, but unless you're taking pictures of a horizon, it won't bother you unless you let it. Or, you could buy DxO.

It is leaps and bounds ahead of the Sigma and Tameron that try to compete with it. I never did get a chance to try the Tokina, but after using this lens, I'm not sure I care about the extra money.

I would absolutely buy it again and the first lens I'm going to buy when I can afford an FX camera is either going to be a 17-35 or 18-35 to duplicate this range. Seriously, this and the 18-200mm VR are all you need for a DX camera, perhaps with a 35 or 50 prime for really late night shooting.

This is one of nikkor lenses that you have to have...very flexible lens. You need a wide angled lens, you have it...you need a good focal length for general photography, you have it. Though, of course, it is not a perfect lense, especially for some special occasions where you need a faster lense...but still, you would and can find yourself using this lense most of the time.

I recently got this super-wide zoom and contrary to some critics, it is quite sharp. There is essentially no distortion from 14mm up. Compared to the best I could do with the Nikon 18-70, there is no comparison, there is no distortion at 18mm and it is should I say it again, "super sharp". This lens is so wide, that you have to pay careful attention to what it includes in the image. It "sees" so much more than the human eye that you have to pan back and forth before framing in the viewfinder. It seems to bend light in the way that it transforms the relationship of objects that appear to be close together as they are simultaneously pulled closer but your vantage point is as if you had taken several steps back. I will need to spend some time getting used to the perspective.

It is hard to compose an image wider than 14mm that does not include something that I would crop out later (I have shot the same scene at 12 and 14 and usually prefer the 14), so I am not sure that I am missing anything compared to the wider Sigma.

This lens is great for the tight spots that a 20mm used to cover on film. I suggest watching the level of the camera because of its wide view it is easy to bow vertical lines. It is the answer to problems in tight spaces.

I like this lens a lot, but don't use it very often. It's great to have an affordable wide lens, but I don't like the distortion at 12mm. Despite the f4 aperature it seems to be bring in light better so haven't really missed a 2.8 aperture. Fast focus with the AFS. No problems with chromatic aberation or fringing, unlike the 28-70 2.8, which I also own. Wish it wasn't a DX lens....I see no advantage to that becuase you still have the crop factor. When I bought it I thought the 12 mm would a without that....which would essentially have be a 8 mm to get a 12.

I bought this for a two-week tour of the west and I
used it constantly with a D-70, from the Grand Canyon to Sequoia NP to Big Sur and everywhere in between. Since I wasn't shooting anything moving real fast the f4 was no problem. I continue to use it shooting for a newspaper when light allows.

I love having this 12-24 in my kit. The only problem I find is vignetting close to 12mm when using a filter. I typically use a circular polarizing filter, but have to avoid 12mm as the vignetting starts to take over the shot.
