At first I was scared to buy a "refub" product because of the short warranty. This lens went on sale and for the difference in price I purchased a seven year warranty. Peace of mind now. However, to the lens. it is superb. I use it as a "walk around" lens on my Nikon D-90. For normal shooting my other lens is the Nikon 55-300 lens. Between the two I have great coverage. The lens is crisp and clear as can be. Auto focus is fairly fast and extremely accurate with no hunting. Zoom is very smooth. Much smoother than my 55-300 lens. Overall, I think the refub was a super buy. The quality of the lens is totally outstanding. Definitely a "best buy".

Bought this "on sale" at Adorama. Used the difference between the regular price and sale price to buy 7 years extended warranty. At first worried about buying a "refurb" item. Has been perfect and very happy with the 7 year warranty. All the photos with it have been crisp and clear at all focal lengths. Zoom is real smooth. Great addition to the D-90 body I had. I use it primarily as my all purpose "walk around" lens. Superb investment.

I had some hesitation because of its lower build quality, but I have found the build quality to be satisfactory. More important, it gives me clean images in most situations. I keep a couple of primes on hand for low-light or when I need maximum crispness. But for general uses, I have been happy with this zoom.

When I take wedding photos, the bride wants to see every beed on her dress. I use my nikon 24-70 f2.8 mm lens.
When I want to take family fun photos I use my 18-105 3.5-5.6 ed af dx-vr lens. It's light weight and small. Does not get in the way with a crowed filled room.

On the strength of glowing resolution reports, I decided I could narrow down my all-purpose zoom range from my 18-200, to this.The 18-200 is great, but I do think super zooms can't achieve the same quality that shorter zooms can, and it looks like this is so, in this case.To me, the 18-105 is a pro lens, albeit, within a lightweight, plastic body. If you can live with that - and I have to admit that apart from the plastic mount which makes me a bit nervous, although it seems strong - I've become a fan of these tough plastic lenses(with VR). Anyway, at this price if you happen to break it, buy another!I have been reviewing the results from its first shoot, and I'm very happy.A great buy, for what looks like a brand-new lens[...]

I just purchased this lens for my D5000 and so far I love it. I have used it outdoors on a wildlife preserve as well as indoors for general photography. I like it because it is quite versatile and I don't have to change lenses for each photograph. I don't think I will ever use the 18-55mm lens that came with the camera body!

Initially i was hesistant to buy a refurbished product. But after much deliberations and after getting fully convinced, bought this one. [...] Nikon box is not that nice looking, but the lens was awsome. you cant make out that its any way Factory Refurbished one. Infact what Adoram agent told me that, its actually pre used by Nikon in trade shows and all, not any factory repaired ones. I have been using this lens for now past allmost 15 days, find this great in terms of picture quality on my D90. Decent range, definately better than my previous kit lens 18-55mm. Build quality is good, slightly hevier than 18-55mm, but looks good on D90, wider glass. Only draw back i find is the lens mount is of plastic, instead of metle. I was expecting Nikon would get a non plastic ring for this price, thats why giving one less star. But still this is a great walk arround lens, will stay on 90% of time, when ever going out. I also have 70-300mm VR and 35mm f1.8, but now this 18-105 stays most of the time. I have not yet tested the VR capability of this lens. But definately it should work, as it works great on my 70-300mm. I also like the hood of this lens. With hood on, believe me the camera the whole set looks impresive. Definately worth buying, and from Adorama too.

A week before I was to shoot a wedding I managed to break my Nikon 18 to 70 mm lens so I had to make a decision quickly for a replacement. Cost was the main factor in purchasing this refurbished lens and the fact I could get it within the week and prior to the photo shoot.

The lens itself is what I expected for a Nikon lens in this price range and it came out of the package looking brand spanking new--there were no indications that it was a refurbished lens. The lens is not extremely sharp but acceptable for what I need it for and the distortion, chromatic aberration and vignetting are acceptable and correctible in Photoshop (I wish Nikon would provide a profile though). And thanks to Adorama the lens arrived before the wedding!

If you are looking for an inexpensive all around lens this lens fits and although refurbished I can't tell the difference between it and the new Nikon lens I have purchased other than the packaging that it came in.

The lens was in excellent conditions, like a new. Really no reason to pay extra for a new one. I use it for weddings and night photography. It work very good. in low light situations. Use it in aperture mode 3.5 for a low light and a nice blurry background. Good for wedding photography because you don't have to carry to many lens, only this one 18mm to 105mm. You can shoot the hole church in 18mm and shoot a beautiful close up of the couple at 105mm everything in one lens in the right price.

Excellent "walking around lens" when you don't want to carry multiple lenses around or take the time to switch to a specialty lens for close or long range shooting. And the refurbished model is a great deal. Got it for $90 less than the new one. OK, refurbished carries only a 90-day manufacturer's warranty (instead of 5 yrs), but I bought a Mack 7-yr warranty for only $20. Net result: Nikkor lens guaranteed for 7 years instead of 5, and I saved $70.

I like this lens for most general uses. It gives me enough zoom for most situations, thereby minimizing the need to swap lenses. Nikon's 70mm - 200mm lens is great for the powerful zoom but too often requires changing the lens when I need a wider view. I can leave the 18mm - 105mm on my camera almost all the time and it usually gives me adequate zoom. I like the quality of the photos this lens produces.
