Comments about Nikon Nikon "New" 18mm - 200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR II Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom-Nikkor Lens with 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty:

I am using basically as a do it all lens for my D7000. It is far superior to the 18-105 which is also a fine lens but not as shrp as the 18-200. It is a little pricey but well worth it overall. Great for landscapes and portraits. Allows you to go without a camera bag. I use this and my 18-55. For my use it works great. Great optics. Sharp throughout the zoom range. The Zoom lock is a nice feature

I bought this lens to replace the two stock lenses that came with my camera body. It is so much nicer having a lens that can shoot 18-200mm, instead of having to switch out to get that perfect angle.

Comments about Nikon Nikon "New" 18mm - 200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR II Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom-Nikkor Lens with 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty:

I've used the lens for hikes. I like the convenience of not having to change lenses. One problem I noticed early on is the lens tends to be soft at wide apertures. I solved the problem by increasing the in-camera sharpening on the D300. The pictures came out much sharper but still show some softening around the edges. Other than that the lens is adequate for most applications.

I have found this lens to be a very versatile lens with high quality Nikon optics. It really takes the place of two zooms I used previously; 18-85 and 85 to 200. I wish you could do 'zoom lock' at any zoom level, not just at the 18mm focal length.

Comments about Nikon Nikon "New" 18mm - 200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR II Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom-Nikkor Lens with 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty:

I should have purchased one of the cheaper aftermarket versions of this lens. There are a few out there: Quantary (Ritz Camera's label for a Tamron version), Tamron, and Sigma. Having tested the Tammy against the Nikon I like the Tammy better and it was less than half the price. The long-end aperture difference between the two (5.6 Nikon, 6.3 Tammy) isn't enough to matter at 200mm with VR.VRII is a sham. The original VR lens has the 2nd generation VR, so both have the exact same VR.The zoom creep is unacceptable. Supposedly the VRII addressed this with a tighter barrel but it loosened up after a little use. The zoom lock switch can only be locked when you pull the lens back to 18mm. Basically, if you're on a tripod pointing down or up, even at relatively little angle, you have to hold the zoom ring or the lens will creep. Unacceptable for slow shutter speeds.I wasted my money on this. Worse thing is it doesn't hold it's value. I think other people are having the same issues and trying to dump them. I bough mine from Adorama for [$]and it's down to [$], and used for just over 500.As a lens, for me, it gets 2 stars. As a purchase, it gets 0 stars. Threw my money away. I could have bought a Tammy and picked up another lens or another flash or something and still had a few bucks left over for lunch.Don't waste your money. Buy the Tammy or the Sigma. Use the difference to pay a model and shoot some artistic nudes or something.

This is a very nice part of my camera bag. I keep it on my camera at all time and it is great for capturing that image you pull your car over to get. If you need to take a quick random picture, this is the one to have ready to go when you need it. The only issue with the lens is the focus time. It isn't the fastest, but it is by no means the slowest.

Bought this lens with my D90 in lieu of any of the kit packages, and was very glad I did. As a travel lens, it covers all the bases, while still being useful for wide angle lanscape and telephoto wildlife. I don't find it too heavy as many have claimed, as I feel that's a valid tradeoff for the versatility it provides in a single lens package. I still plan to upgrade with super wide angle and longer telephoto lenses (10-24mm/f 3.5-4.5 and (hopefully an upgraded) 80-400mm/f ??-?? VR II) when Nikon gets around to it, for dedicated landscape and wildlife photography as my budget permits, but feel this lens is the one to get to indulge in all phases of photography as a budding enthusiast.

Comments about Nikon Nikon "New" 18mm - 200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR II Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom-Nikkor Lens with 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty:

About 6 months ago I purchased my first Nikon D-60 kit which came with two lenses. After using it for a while I realized what a nuisance it was to keep changing lenses. So I purchased the New Nion 18-200mm DX VR II. Was glad to see it on the market as it has a lock to prevent lens creep. I love my new lens. It is so much better than having to change lenses. It takes great pictures and is easy to use. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
