Comments about Nikon Nikon 50mm f/1.4D Auto Focus AF Nikkor Lens - Gray Market:

Previous to purchasing the Nikon 50mm 1.4, I used the 50mm 1.8 on my Nikon D90. Now I own both lenses. After owning and taking several shots with the 1.4 lens, I'm not convinced that the 1.4 is better than the 1.8. These two lenses are both excellent and produce consistent quality output. But if I had to do it again, I wouldn't have purchased the 1.4. The bokeh and the clarity are excellent, but very similar in output.

So, did I just waste my money on another 50mm lens? I think I did. Well, now I have a backup 50mm lens in case one breaks. Buy the 1.8 instead. Nothing can beat it for the price and output quality.

For 90% of the time the much cheaper F/1.8D will do the job, but when you really need it...
Makes a nice portrait lens when used with a 4/3 or micro 4/3 camera

Comments about Nikon Nikon 50mm f/1.4D Auto Focus AF Nikkor Lens - Gray Market:

Fast lens gives impressive results under low light conditions. Great for photographs of children indoors and outdoors as the wider apertures allow for the faster shutter speeds needed to capture moving subjects.
This lens shows softness wide open but sharpness increases at around 2.8, in my opinion a somewhat soft picture is better than the noisy picture you get by pushing ISO too high when taking pictures at night with available light.

During the day even indors there is little need to push this lents to 1.4 or 1.8 so pictures are sharp and clear.

This is a great lens I wish I had purchased years ago.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 50mm f/1.4D Auto Focus AF Nikkor Lens - Gray Market:

Bought this lens to take pictures of my 1yr. son inside the house. Fantastic for indoor photos without the flash. I wish I picked this lens up for the birth of my son, it would have been perfect for hospital pics. Need practice at 1.4f, really shallow dof but that's what I like about it too.

This lens takes sharp pictures indoor or out. One observation is that on my D80 this lens does not take deep blue sky pictures with a low ISO setting. My other lens take deeper blue sky pictures with lower ISO settings.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 50mm f/1.4D Auto Focus AF Nikkor Lens - Gray Market:

I considered the 50mm f/1.8 for quite a while, but once I had this lens in my hands the decision was made for me. The only drawback to this lens is its plasticy feel relative to the other nikkor prime lenses. It is made in China instead of Japan. That being said, it is still better feeling than almost every zoom I've ever used and MUCH more clear. This is, hands down, the best portrait lens Nikon makes.

Fast and Essential Nikon lens

Pros:
Clear Viewing, Easily Accessible Controls, Easily Mounted, Lightweight, Strong Construction

Best Uses:

Bottom Line:

Comments about Nikon Nikon 50mm f/1.4D Auto Focus AF Nikkor Lens - Gray Market:

Compact characteristics of this lens make for easy use indoors/outdoors and during travel. The fast f1.4 apeture means you will get all of your shots in low light conditions and with the use of a Nikon Speedlight your color photographs will burst with color and clarity. This fast lens allows you to see clearly in low light to achieve fast framing of your subject. Vibrant photos are the result of this lens. The f1.4 setting allows shallow depth of field that captures you subject as the main element of your photo. Essential lens for every photographers camera whether beginner or professional.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 50mm f/1.4D Auto Focus AF Nikkor Lens - Gray Market:

I always carry this lens with me - regardless of what I am doing. It is the only 1.4 I own and gives me a little more light when I need it. When shooting basketball or night sports with poor lighting, I use this instead of my 85f1.8 and just crop to get the image I need. It is my primary portrait lens. For the money everyone should have one.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 50mm f/1.4D Auto Focus AF Nikkor Lens - Gray Market:

I have had two incarnations of the 50mm f1.4 lens from Nikon. The first was an older AI model that I used on my Nikkormat FT3. This one I picked up when I got my D70S and have always been amazed by it's sharpness. Wide open this lens is amazing for low light. I have taken pictures by candle light hand held at a reasonable ISO. With a tripod under a full moon I have taken pictures that look like daytime at 30s exposure time and without pushing the ISO too far. The only complaint I would have about it is that it is almost too fast, I've had to use ND filters at night because it only stops down to f16.
