Comments about Nikon Nikon 55mm - 200mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Autofocus Zoom Lens - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

I use the product for basically every shot I take. It's always on the camera and I rarely switch to use the 18-55mm lens that came with the camera. I bought mine as a refurbished lens because the cost was right. I never expected to purchase that size lens when I got the camera; I knew that I wanted to buy it eventually, but I had a budget. When told about the refurbished price I grabbed it. I was right to do so. It's a great lens and if I didn't already know I would have never guessed it was refurbished. It's a heavy duty lens and recently found out how AWESOME it performs in a low light/no flash zone at my nieces dance recital. I got great action shots in perfect light, high leaps in the air frozen in time, and crystal clear twirling. It was magnificent to catch such clarity in such poor auditorium light. I couldn't be happier with it. It has also renewed my joy in shooting the elements around me - I live in Kansas and storm clouds have never been more beautiful than through this lens.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 55mm - 200mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Autofocus Zoom Lens - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

I purchased this lens as a zoom lens for my Nikon 3100, and I wasn't ready to invest in a fast and expensive zoom lens. I've used the lens for some sports and landscape photography and have been pleased with the results. The time will come in a couple years to upgrade, but until then, I will get a lot of use out of it and will have good idea on what to look for in my next zoom lens.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 55mm - 200mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Autofocus Zoom Lens - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

This was birthday gift (along with a D-40) from a relative when they heard I went back into business. As with all nikon products it is very good glass, sharp, well built, excellent color and dependable but it is designed for every day casual use (as opposed to the rigors of professional use) A very good everyday lens for the casual amature who wants to cover home & family, outdoor sports and things in general. The cons listed are mainly because of the direction I had to turn the lens in attaching and removing (just the opposite of my Canon equipment)and the slow max apature (f4.5/5.6 as opposed to an f2.8)

Comments about Nikon Nikon 55mm - 200mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Autofocus Zoom Lens - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

Great for portraits. Good accompanyment for the 18-55mm. Not the best for outdoor as one should have a wide angle to a larger telephoto zoom.
I bought the refurbished lens as any problems that this model may have had has been corrected by Nikon (but I have not heard of any).
Very handy to have the auto/manual focus mode switch.
Adorama had the best price at the time for this zoom lens.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 55mm - 200mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Autofocus Zoom Lens - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

I really like this lens. I've owned several 55mm - 200mm Nikon lenses and this produces the best quality, so far. It's quick to auto-focus and never wants to underexpose, like some of the old Nikon telephoto lenses do. I think the lens does reasonably well in low-lit situations. I've taken nice photos of the moon without a tripod and the photos are sharp and detailed (I found this impressive). I don't use my telephoto lenses for macro photography, instead, I prefer to use my 18-55 mm kit lens and a close-up filter. However, I have taken beautiful close-up shots with my 55mm - 200mm and I am always pleased with the results. In sunlight, the colors are so rich I generally don't need to use a polarizer. For the price, you can't go wrong.

I purchased this lens for a recent trip to California. I needed some extra range, but didn't need the expense of a fast lens or VR since would be in good lighting with many stable platforms available. The lens performed excellent in that capacity. It is not the latest or greatest, but its not priced like those are. Its a good consumer/casual grade lens , with good range for good lighting conditions. The lens also came with an hood, and soft carry case.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 55mm - 200mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Autofocus Zoom Lens - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

I was a little leery of a refurb, but no longer. Lens was in perfect condition, and I will not hesitate to buy another refurb[...] I had intended to get the VR model, but when this one appeared [$], I couldn't resist. I am very satisfied, and have had none of the issues others have warned about, such as slow focus, focus hunting, loss of sharpness at long focal lengths, etc. The major shortcoming I have seen so far is slight vignetting at long lengths, but it's not objectionable at all. Keeping in mind its intended use and price point, this is a great buy. If I could have a "do-over," I might buy the 18-135 instead. It'd be nice not to have to swap lenses between wide-angle and telephoto, and that last little increase in magnification from 135mm to 200mm is not as useful as having the 18-55mm range available. But, again, for the price, it's a no-brainer.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 55mm - 200mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Autofocus Zoom Lens - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

I compared this refurb lens with a friends new retail lens (on my D40x body) and confirmed my suspicion, the refurb lens does not yield good results at max focal length. I did 12 shots with each lens and my friends retail lens was consistently sharp through all test shots (200mm) at various apertures and shutter speeds. The refurb lens was less sharp in all 12 test shots.

Since the refub lens is under warranty I sent it to Nikon Service and fully expect they will solve the problem.

I gave this lens a high rating based on price and overall performance. In most cases the average user would not notice the focus problem. Keep in mind, this lens was designed for mid range DSLR cameras, not pro.
