Comments about Nikon Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5 - 5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR (Vibration Reduction) Zoom Nikkor Lens - Gray Market:

I'm very happy with the purchase so far. The images are sharp and the distortion is very small indeed, imperceptible unless you check it with software. It is easily interchangeable and the focus is fast and right on. Sharpness falls off a little at 300mm but that's to be expected. It is plenty sharp at 200mm and below. It has problems in really low light, especially flat low light but it is f4.5 after all. The biggest problem is that it's inclusion pushed my camera pack above 20 lbs.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5 - 5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR (Vibration Reduction) Zoom Nikkor Lens - Gray Market:

I have a 300mm f2.8 AFS and needed a lighter lens. I was considering this vs the 300mm f4. I ended up sending the 300mm f4 back and kept this. I did not want to accept that a "consumer grade" lens could produce this kind of image. It' matches the 300mm f2.8 at f8..I don't want to believe this. This give more fire power to GWC (guys with cameras) who give away images for free, driving down the price of images that pros want to sell. It's getting tough out there to make a living at wedding or wildlife photography. Unlike film the playing field of gear is leveled with digital. You won't regret this purchase. Go Nikon.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5 - 5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR (Vibration Reduction) Zoom Nikkor Lens - Gray Market:

the vibration reduction is a must when photographing wild killer whales, whether from shore or from a boat.
quiet focus, fast focus, I thought its weight and the weight of the D90 would be too much, but when I am photographing I forget about the weight.
Interchangeable Nikon lenses are wonderful - quick and easy too.

Two things prompt a review of this lens. First the VR is exceptional and provides good feedback and you watch things stabilize in the lens -- you can really feel it happening. Second, I was surprised at the nice portrait affect around 70mm--good color and nice bokeh.
