I use this converter exclusively with the 600mm VR Nikkor. It is very sharp, even when used wide open.
Comments about Nikon Nikon TC-14E II 1.4x Auto Focus Teleconverter for AFS & AF-I Lenses - Gray Market:
I recently stepped up to a Nikkor 300mm f2.8 VR lens for much of my wildlife photography. A nice step up in speed and IQ from my 80-400 VR lens. The 1.4 TC was added to restore my ability to reach the 400mm range with my new lens. IQ, focus speed, and wide open bokeh have not suffered. Based on my experience with this TC, I may consider a 2x TC in the future.

Comments about Nikon Nikon TC-14E II 1.4x Auto Focus Teleconverter for AFS & AF-I Lenses - Gray Market:
I have been using a TC-14E converter on my Nikon 500mm VR lens and it's great. I bought a used 200-400mm VR and desided I needed another TC-14. I bought the Current TC-14E II for the 200-400mm. This combination does work better then I expected. Ther is no los of image sharpness that I can tell with this TC. It does slow focussing a little as can be expected. This gives you a 280-560mm lens. Just great for birds in Florida in the winter. Oh by the way the Tc-14E or TC-14E II works great on the 600mm VR also.

Comments about Nikon Nikon TC-14E II 1.4x Auto Focus Teleconverter for AFS & AF-I Lenses - Gray Market:
I use this teleconverter to shoot a lot of indoor sports action with a Nikon 70-200mm/2.8 lens mounted on a D300. Fully functional with this lens. It allows me to get in tight on the athletes faces from courtside without any discernable loss of quality and with just 1 stop loss still produces great exposures in low light. It's a terrific addition to your camera bag if you're in search of a little more magnification without having to carry around an addition lens.

Comments about Nikon Nikon TC-14E II 1.4x Auto Focus Teleconverter for AFS & AF-I Lenses - Gray Market:
sharp with the 300f4 but not so sharp with 80-200f2.8 which is what I had heard previously. It is more suited to the longer prime lenses.

Comments about Nikon Nikon TC-14E II 1.4x Auto Focus Teleconverter for AFS & AF-I Lenses - Gray Market:
It won't fit plain vanilla AF.
Since the optics are set very shallow in the barrel, an extra bit of caution is needed when handling it.
This is a great little piece of gadget lust for your bag. It will effectly make your 70-200mm. in to an approximately 105-300mm. I put it on my 200-400mm. with great results. Very sharp as teleconverters go... and don't be put off by "Gray Market"; it's the same stuff but without the U.S. warranty.

Yes, I still feel the same compare with TC-14E, the old version. Just looking better. If you have the old one , i won't tell you to buy it. However, if it's your first, MUST HAVE for your combo long lens.

Comments about Nikon Nikon TC-14E II 1.4x Auto Focus Teleconverter for AFS & AF-I Lenses - Gray Market:
I had hoped that it would be my answer to a more expensive lens, but unfortunately I was very disappointed. Using this item with my 70-200 AF-S VR, caused un-natual color shifting, and I could not get my lens to focus properly. I use this primarily for aviation photography, and every shot was slightly off color and a bit fuzzy. Perhaps I just got a bad one; in either case, I won't use it again.
