Comments about Nikon Nikon TC-17E II 1.7x Auto Focus Teleconverter for AF-S & AF-i Lenses - Gray Market:
I had no idea that it was Grey Market it wasn't in the description. The title said "Nikon Tc17e-ii
1.7x Af-s Telecnvertr G." I guess the G stands for Grey. This was an open box item not grey market. I just would liked to have known.

First time buying the gray market product, but, knowing I am buying a NIKON brand name, I decided to give a try. Not bad at all. I am using it for wildlife shooting purpose, and some landscapes.

Comments about Nikon Nikon TC-17E II 1.7x Auto Focus Teleconverter for AF-S & AF-i Lenses - Gray Market:
This is the first gray market item I've ever purchased. I took the chance because there's relatively little to go wrong with the teleconverter. I'm happy I made that decision and saved some money.
I use the teleconverter primarily with a 70-200mm, f/2.8, VRII lens. This combination gives me the advantage of having a much longer lens without the cost of a separate lens or the extra weight of a longer lens. As long as the system is given the support needed for the long focal length, there is very little, if any, loss of sharpness.

Comments about Nikon Nikon TC-17E II 1.7x Auto Focus Teleconverter for AF-S & AF-i Lenses - Gray Market:
I use it very occasionally when shooting outdoor events - you "lose" quite a bit of light. (I shoot F2.8-4.0 most of the time.) It seemed more useful to have the 1.7 vs. the 1.4.
Comments about Nikon Nikon TC-17E II 1.7x Auto Focus Teleconverter for AF-S & AF-i Lenses - Gray Market:
Bought this for my Nikon 70-200mm. It produces very clear pics everytime I use it, real easy to attach and remove and provides an extra reach for my lens.

I use this mainly with my 300f4 telephoto, it gives me a 500+ mm lens, with VERY little image degradation.

Comments about Nikon Nikon TC-17E II 1.7x Auto Focus Teleconverter for AF-S & AF-i Lenses - Gray Market:
When this line of TC came out I purchased the 2X TC and experienced marginal results at best. The 2X allowed me to capture tighter cropped images but the quality was obviously less sharp to the point of being unusable.
This fall I purchsased the 1.7X TC and the results are much more in line with what I wanted. I have a much higher proportion of sharp images. The 2X will stay in the bag and the 1.7 never leaves the 70-200 Nikon VR lens.

Comments about Nikon Nikon TC-17E II 1.7x Auto Focus Teleconverter for AF-S & AF-i Lenses - Gray Market:
[...]This extender won't work with the 80-400 VR or the 24-120 VR. The glass physically conflicts when the VR zoom is retracted. Aside from that, the extender is a very fast (F stop wise). It would have been a cool backup for when I don't carry the big glass around.

Comments about Nikon Nikon TC-17E II 1.7x Auto Focus Teleconverter for AF-S & AF-i Lenses - Gray Market:
All teleconverters are a trade-off. I've been using this 1.7x unit with Nikon's stellar 70-200/2.8, and the performance has been excellent. I went into it knowing there would be some loss of sharpness (and the inevitable slowing of the lens and auto-focus), but in decent light, I've been very, very impressed. It has added more flexibility to my favorite lens, and allowed me to get some shots that I'd otherwise have to aggressively crop, at the cost of resolution. Mechanically, it's outstanding. Feels like part of the lens and body.

Comments about Nikon Nikon TC-17E II 1.7x Auto Focus Teleconverter for AF-S & AF-i Lenses - Gray Market:
The product is well made and sharp but it would be nice if it were useable on a larger selection of lens. My use with the Nikon 70-200 2.8 EDIF VR lens has been very useful and is cost effective over buying a specific longer lens for the amount of need for such a lens.

Comments about Nikon Nikon TC-17E II 1.7x Auto Focus Teleconverter for AF-S & AF-i Lenses - Gray Market:
Best combination of length and image quality with minimal light loss. Works well with longer AF-S primes and zooms with only 1.5 stops light loss. Minimal compromise on image quality. Best deal for the money.

Comments about Nikon Nikon TC-17E II 1.7x Auto Focus Teleconverter for AF-S & AF-i Lenses - Gray Market:
This is the finest Teleconverter I have ever used and I own many of them. Paired with the Nikkor 70-200 VR, 300 f/2.8, 200-400 VR it is simply superb. I rarely remove it from the 200-400. The flexibility that this combination provides is amazing. In my opinion, it is THE BEST!
