I got this lens to be an "always on the camera" lens when I am out doing casual photos or hiking or riding around. I like the zoom range in that I don't miss shots for having to change lenses. I have used it on one hike to take macros of flowers, portraits of a friend and a nice waterfall shot (even if the light was from the wrong direction). The focus is sometimes slow, but usually spot on when it gets there, but that is usually in lower light conditions. Overall, works great for what I got it for and exceeds my expectations.
