The lens cover not only covers the lenses it talks about, I found that it will also fit on my Canon EF75-300. Takes a lot of glare out of the pictures, as well. Would recommend this item to anyone with a canon lens.

It's a hood. It can be mounted backwards, and its easy to put on. Only problem is that the hood is designed for the wide side of the 18-55, but it does what I mainly want it for, protecting the lens.

I will use this product in the outdoors where sun can be a problem, causing lens flare. this lens hood will help prevent that as well as protect the lens from damage from bumping.
