This hood has a screw mount which is the 1st time I've seen. But, it works well. Then, the filter screws into the hood. When rolled up, the hood is wider than I expected and does not fit perfectly into my camera bag.
offers some protection to lens and camera
DOES ITS JOB -- RECOMMEND ---
Costs a little more than others, but Nikon stays true to form and makes a product just *that* much better than the rest. Hood is a tad wider, deeper, and made of better rubber than any other off-brand hood I have tried for less. Does great to block the sun and folds tight and flat when not in use. Screws cleanly onto lens and filters and doesnt "gum up". Use it with my Nikon AF 50f/1.8D, 24f/2.8D, 35f/2D and 50f1.4D primes. Dont skimp here, get this hood. Its a cut above the rest.
East to install or remove, functional, light weight and collapsible for storage while on the lens.
Prevents possible lens flare and adds a small amount of protection.
A rubber hood by Nikon: Works as advertised.
Hangs onto dust for dear life. Semi-floppy rubber body requires a lot of care or it will quickly hold a warped shape. Also, it's kind of shallow, so I can't imagine that it is shielding much of anything, unless the light you are trying to block is 90 degrees to your right or left, making it more or less worthless. Makes a short lens look more pro, that's about it.
Got this for my Nikon 50 f/1.4. I shoot a lot of weddings outside during sunset and the sun is always in my lens. This thing is so cool. It keeps excess light out of my lens and it folds over the lens, flat, when I don't need it so I don't have to even take it off the lens to store it. And it doesn't take up any space in my already crowded camera bag!
