indispensible if shooting JPEG

Best Uses:

For several reasons I do not want to go into RAW shooting - so most problem was often the correct white balance. To correct WB in post processing on JPEGs is not quite easy, nor always sucsessful. ExpoDisc solves that in an easy and clearly evident way. Just get the WB right the first time! I'm very pleased. Besides: the product is very well manufactured and good looking too :)

The Expodisk brings out the true colors without having to adjust them in Photoshop. My best results have been outdoors with natural light. It is amazing the difference from the Auto White Balance setting on my Canon 20D. The only downfall so far is shooting indoor sports (hockey). I have to change the custom white balance (using the Expodisk) depending on which end of the ice the players are on. I have not figured out how to use it with a flash when I can not get on the ice to take a reading. I am sure with a little more practice, I will get that figured out too!! Worth the money for sure.

I use the Expodisk on my Nikon D200. It takes the guesswork out of setting the white balance. Very accurate. Much better white balance accuracy than my "shot-in-the-dark" approach.

I love my Expodisc
By Music Man5 from Illinois on 12/7/2007
Cons:
it is expensive
Best Uses:
Macro Photography
Describe Yourself:
Hobbyist/Enthusiast

I photograph a lot of events (sports, plays, concerts) and it just isn't always possible to get a white balance card into the light being used to get a reference shot. But in all my situations so far I have been able to point my ExpoDisc towards the light source!

It has been a huge time saver in my post processing!!

Been using these since Mr Wallace, the inventor, was around. In those days, when they were less money, I had several that I used as lens caps. Today, just buy 1 big one and carry it with you everywhere.

As good as advertised!
By SteveVerified Purchaser from Lincoln, NE on 7/11/2007
Pros:
Easy To Use
Best Uses:
Portraits, Professional, Wedding
Describe Yourself:
Professional
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Works very well, I used this for a wedding after reading and watching the included DVD , I also shot quite a few practice shots to make sure I had the concept down. I took the Expo disc to the same church I was going to shoot at and took some shots there as well and was very satisfied with the results. About the only down side is the fact that as with any white balance solution you have to have time to capture a shot to use it. 4 out of 5

Great product for easily setting WB
By NollyVerified Purchaser from Readind, PA on 7/10/2007
Pros:
Durable, Easy To Use, Improves Product Function, Lightweight
Best Uses:
Everyday use, Home, Portraits, Professional, Sporting Events, Studio, Traveling
Describe Yourself:
Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The expodisc is easy to use, just snap onto filter threads and take a picture to set white balance. Well, it can be a little more involved depending on your make, but it's not hard at all.
It does a great job at getting the white ballance right, even in mixed lighting conditions. It comes with a nice case with a belt/strap loop to attach it with. The expodisc has a lanyard on it that can mostly be removed at a snap connection. The expodisc is also offered in a 'portrait' version that works the same, except that it creates a warmer look. I suggest buying the size that matches your largest lens or the largest that you plan on buying. That way you can easily use on smaller lenses by just holding the expodisc in front of your lens.

Good product. Makes the difference.
By MarkVerified Purchaser from Seattle, WA on 5/13/2007

Pros:
Easy To Use, Lightweight
Best Uses:
Great for all photos, Home, Sporting Events, Traveling
Bottom Line:

Easy to use. I suggest getting the largest one you can and then hold it over your lens rather than screwing it on. This way you only buy one that you need and have them for most. In my case, I bought the 77mm. Have one lens which is 86mm and have to just go without for that one.

Takes the hassle out of white balance
By Long Ball BurtVerified Purchaser from St Louis, MO on 5/8/2007
Describe Yourself:
Professional
Pros:
Easy To Use, Lightweight
Best Uses:
Sporting Events, Traveling
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I do a lot of landscape, architecture, and golf course photography. With the light always changing it was a hassle to take the large white disc out of its holder, unfold it and place it in the correct position in order to photograph it for a custom white balance. With the photo disc all I do is put it over the lens and point it at the light source and I have the custom white balance. Saves a lot of time and effort especially when its windy and when the light constantly changes during partly cloudy days.

Single most effective tool in my kit
By BillVerified Purchaser from Lexington, KY on 3/26/2007
Pros:
Durable, Great Features, Great Picture Quality, Lightweight, Simple Controls, Versatile
Cons:
None that come to mind
Best Uses:
Home, Office, Professional Work, Special Events
Describe Yourself:
Professional

I bought the ExpoDisc after fighting with the low light levels inside a church during a wedding ceremony. It can be diffecult to capture some of those special images and remain unobtrusive. I have saved myself a lot of time correcting those images and my time saved using the disc will easily pay the price I paid for this great tool. I strongly recommend it for any lighting situation where you are restricted in how you can adapt to changing lighting and struggle with hitting the white balance perfectly. I have used this in a school gym as well as dimly lit rooms and it is has performed perfectly. I am really glad I chose the Expodisc.

Excelent WB solution
By KKEVerified Reviewer from Warsaw, Poland (Europe) on 11/24/2006

Expodisc does what it is supposed to do: accurate white balance in most lighting situations. It is amazingly easy to use and convinient.

I do not like the way it is being attached to the lens. The system is very fast, but Expodisc is not firmly attached and can fall easily. It is an expensive product, but most of the price is paid for the invention.
