Comments about X-Rite X-Rite Digital ColorChecker Passport, Exposure & White Balance System.:

Very useful in tough lighting situations where there is a mix of sources. Software and camera profile are extremely easy to use and set up. Only complaint I have is that the WB card is pretty small and need to get very close to fill the frame, potentially blocking the light.

Comments about X-Rite X-Rite Digital ColorChecker Passport, Exposure & White Balance System.:

Do not just open by this item thinking you will be able to use perfectly the first time. I have used many forms of color checkers over the past 5 years and I do love this one the most. But, it took me a few trying to get figure out exactly how to hold it, how to position so I am getting an accurate reading of all the light sources and reflected light sources.

Indoors in a studio I had no problem what so ever, it worked perfectly. When I take photos outside where I had many light sources to do light reflecting off different objects I sometimes took more then one image of the Passport. But this can be corrected with time and practice.

The software was to setup and use, I use it on Adobe Lightroom 2. I do not like the fact that I have to restart Lightroom every time I make a new profile but that could have been fixed in Lightroom 3.

With a correctly calibrated monitor and the Passport, photographers should have no problem getting accurate color each and ever print/web-posting.

As part of a continuing color management process, this is a fine addition to your toolkit. I set custom WB for different lighting and lens combinations and can verify them periodically as needed.

Note the Passport is only for camera settings; additional tools are needed to calibrate monitors and printers.

Comments about X-Rite X-Rite Digital ColorChecker Passport, Exposure & White Balance System.:

There are time when color accuracy matters. A bride knows the color of her lipstick, her bridesmaid's dresses, etc... X-Rite ColorChecker Passport allows you to re-capture the true colors in post-processing, and, brings your shots back to the life and vibrancy you saw on the viewfinder when you process using Lightroom. It has simplified my post-processing workflow and taken out alot of guesswork in trying to get accurate colors when it matters.

Comments about X-Rite X-Rite Digital ColorChecker Passport, Exposure & White Balance System.:

After years of not having convincing color calibration from my printer, I decided to see if the Color Checker Passport would give any clues.
After a very simple set-up the first tests revealed the problem - the printer was correct, the screen was wrong!! Now I have a different screen calibrator too and the whole chain is calibrated.
Very simple to use and gives consistent results in Lightroom.

Works in any situation - the only concern I have is the surround of the color card is a little narrow and I worry about getting fingerprints on the color swatches.
