No, I would not recommend this to a friend
This bag like all Mountainsmith products is well constructed. But the provided internal dividers are inadequate and simply don't allow good organization. You'll need to buy a divider system of another manufacturer to make it really usable. It would also be nice if there were some lashing points on the outside of the bag for attaching a small tripod
