I purchased this drive a little over 30 days ago. When I hooked it up to my MacBook Pro, it started up and I immediately noticed that it was very noisy. I became a little concerned about the noise and if there was something wrong with the drive. However, this is my first G-Drive so I did not know what to expect with regard to noise. Well, today the drive stopped working. It will power up but the content is not accessible. [...] I was willing to pay more for the G-Drive because they are suppose to be fast and reliable. Well, I was fooled. I like my Seagate Free Agent Drive much better. I would think twice about paying the extra money for this drive.

I am very pleased with the G-Tech 2TB external hard drive. As a Windows PC user, I first had to delete the factory-provided MAC applications by clearing the disk, as directed under the G-Tech website's FAQ instructions. (Unfortunately, the user's manual .pdf file does not explicitly give these instructions for PC users.) From there on, the 2TB disk appears as a single huge external drive that is always available to load up, very easily. Can turn unit on and off conveniently during computer operation, via on-off switch, without having to first disable the external drive's connectivity within the computer. Unit runs cool-to-warm without any fan. Well constructed of heavy gauge aluminum, as a great convective heat sink. Reliable. Has esata and i394 firewire ports, in addition to USB2.0, for fastest possible data transfer speeds.

Just bought two (for redundant backup) and read generally good but few reviews. Don't know about reliability yet but just copied 200+gigs via Firewire 800 to 400 cable (I have an old dual 2.0Gig G5 PowerPC Running Leopard with Firewire 400)in two hours. All cables included with great lengths. Read some reviews about noise or vibration- none here. I've owned a lot of cheaper backup drives and (if these turn out to be reliable) are the best I've ever owned. Kudos!!

For MAC users it's a slam-dunk, hook up your connections along with your power, turn it on, turn on your MAC and it's immediately available for Time Machine or any other use. For 2 TB external HD you can't go wrong. It fits well with the theme of MAC computers and the other G-Drives I have. I have had G-drives since converting to MAC in 2006. No problems with any of them. They are used everyday for various tasks. Buy one and enjoy it if you need the room, oh yes, they do not get hot at all.
