Comments about LaCie LaCie Ethernet Disk Mini, 1 TB Hard Disk Drive with Gigabit Ethernet & USB 2.0 Interface, 7200 rpm, for Macintosh & Windows:
[...]Then I find that any power failure while the drive is switched on ALWAYS leads to errors in the file system.Where I live power failures occur about once a week. So I normaly have a UPS on my computer. But,Corruption of the data that is being written as the power fails is acceptable.Complete loss of all data on the disk while the device is idle is NOT acceptable. At some point the UPS will run out and this device can not handle it.Some investigation of the log file showed that the file system used for the data is fast but not safe. It was intended for servers that are have a UPS that trigger a safe shutdown when the power fails. Not for a desktop drive that can be unplugged by the dog fetching a ball. This drive is not suitable for saving data or storing backups.
