Years ago I had a stereo salesman tell me that a system is only as good as the weakest component. I only use original Canon ink for that reason. Not everyone has a good ear, but eyes? Come on. Why scrimp for a buck here or there. I've tried other ink. Not Worth It!!!!

I believe that only the Canon i9900 uses the extra red & green ink that this package comes with. It's only an extra $3 to get the two extra cartridges vs. ordering just the normal 6. High quality cartirdges for a high quality printer. Let's just hope they keep making them.

Great results...initially
By Rebelgearhead from Portland, OR on 6/21/2007
Pros:
Consistent Alignment, Easy Installation
Cons:
fades after 6 months
Best Uses:
Photos and Graphics
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I've owned an IP8500 for over two years now. The pros: outstanding printer for great initial results, conservative ink usage, and inexpensive price per tank. However, the BIGGEST CON is the fade resistance. With the experiments I've done, they fade horribly...even on Photo Paper Pro after as little as 6 months! I queried Canon about this and they say their newer CLI inks are not available for this printer. I asked why not and they just said that's just the way it is. Nice. Before you buy, get a sample and see how long it lasts and save the frustration. With so many online places to get prints, it is getting harder to justify spending this much money on a home printer.

Glad to find the REAL Canon inks, not "compatibles." And the price was the best I found. Now, if they'd only make the ink LAST longer.....

Using manufacturer inks seem to help prevent fading. I had been using non brand name inks from various suppliers and the printing results were fine, but photos faded quickly

Outstanding Value

Genuine Canon Ink

Receiving all 8 inks in a single "kit" makes sense to me, specifically because of the great price break. [...] Yes, I have to purchase the occasional extra Photo Cyan and Photo Magenta cartridge separately as I run through those two inks more than the other colors, but the cost effectiveness of purchasing the 8-tank kit helps keep my supply costs down.

Lowest price on ink for Cannon i9900

Pros:
Consistent Alignment, Easy Installation, Lowest Cost
Cons:
Small Volume
Best Uses:

I like the low price. I do not use my inks at the same rate so I need to suppliment the purchase of all the inks with individual colors.
