I usually print my photos with an online professional service. Once I got the Canon Pixma Pro 9500 Mark II things changed and started to print my clients work in the Studio. A little slow but I love everything else about it.

Mister Ryer, beat me to it.
Yes, the printer IS expensive.
The end result is cost effective.
I've found cost of ink and paper to be on par with others.
Keep in mind, premium paper will cost more.
That said, premium paper such as Canon Platinum, lives up to that name.
This printer may be the second best purchase I've made in decades.
(first is my Canon 5D)
Highly recommended if you have the dollars.

Comments about Canon Canon Pixma Pro 9500 Mark II Inkjet Photo Printer with 4800 x 2400 dpi Resolution, USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Interface for Mac & Windows:
The printer is expensive. The paper is expensive. The ink is expensive. But you are operating at a different level when you decide to buy this printer. When you are taking your work to the top of your game, you have to have good equipment and, unfortunately, the best costs more.
You can buy a cheaper printer for refrigerator photos, but if you are going to be displaying for critical viewers and you are going to make your own prints for these presentations, you may need the best you can afford and you cannot go wrong with this printer.
I researched printers for a long time. I knew what I needed as my hobby progressed. I found out what was available from the manufacturers and the Mark II was the logical choice for me. I print photos for use in the home, gifts for friends, display in offices and use in a National Park. I am not a professional, but I want professional looking results and this printer does it.
Over the years I have progressed through printers as photo printing technology improved. This set up was very intuitive and the instructions very clear and easy to follow. I was able to print beautiful photographs within one hour out of the box.
Reproduction is very faithful to what I see on the monitor so I was lucky in that regard, no additional adjustments required. The ink in the carriage makes all the difference. I love the detail that the printer can get in macros and landscapes. It is just like going to a professional printer, but without the time and expense.
The unit does take its time to print out a photograph, so if you expect copy machine speeds, this is not the printer for you. Drafts are quick, but the final product takes time and is well worth the wait.
The unit lets you know it is working, but it is not obnoxiously noisy. It sounds like a precision piece of equipment doing its job so it is not a distraction.
There are a lot of ink reservoirs on the print head carriage so expect to spend some money on the cartridges. You will always be able to find special pricing, so buy when you can save the money and avoid the office and big box stores if you can.
Would I buy this printer again? In a heartbeat. It has met my every expectation and produces a finished product I am proud of and people compliment on. This is a high end printer that gets you as far as you can go without having to get a second mortgage on the house. There are less expensive printers out there that give excellent results up to 8 X 10. Decide what you are going to do with your photographs. When it is time to go to the next level, this is the printer for getting straight to the top.

Comments about Canon Canon Pixma Pro 9500 Mark II Inkjet Photo Printer with 4800 x 2400 dpi Resolution, USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Interface for Mac & Windows:
I hadn't realized how far the inkjet technology has come. The results (at the highest quality setting) are better than what I expect from outside labs. Plus the turnaround time for making a change and trying again is now minutes rather than days. I've never had a dedicated photo printer before, so I can't compare it to other products in this market niche.

I have not had a chance to really put the printer to the test, but what I have printed so far I am very impressed. The printer is quiet, fast, and does a great job with both B&W and color prints.

We are new photographers that were looking for a high quality printer without the huge expense. Although this printer is by no means inexpensive, it is a great value. The prints coming out of this thing( using canon pro platinum paper ) are beautiful. We are very pleased so far with this printer.

Comments about Canon Canon Pixma Pro 9500 Mark II Inkjet Photo Printer with 4800 x 2400 dpi Resolution, USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Interface for Mac & Windows:
I'm not a heavy user just yet, but what prints I've run through the printer are extremely high quality. I expected high-quality prints, but these look like they could have been film exposures done in a darkroom. I've printed color, b/w, and sepia and the colors printed look exactly like what's on-sceen. Very happy with this!

Great printer. Pictures look like they were printed by a proffesional. Seems to not "eat" the ink, as other printers do. Canon customer service is top notch! I was a little skeptical about spending this much money for a printer, but it is well worth the money! Would highly recommend this printer!

Comments about Canon Canon Pixma Pro 9500 Mark II Inkjet Photo Printer with 4800 x 2400 dpi Resolution, USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Interface for Mac & Windows:
There's a new love in my life, and it's my Canon printer. The Canon Pixma Pro 9500 Mark II Inkjet Photo Printer prints up to 13" x 19", and most other regularly used sizing for photos. The 10-full color pigment LUCIA Ink system includes gray, black and matte black inks that collectively produce monochrome photographs of surprisingly good quality. If you love to shoot in black and white, (and I do), this printer will make your photograpic ego fly very high. The quality of your color shots will equal those of your favorite photo lab, as you can adjust your print to the finite ends of you desires. What you adjust to, and is displayed on your computer screen, is what shows up on your print. It's awesome.
It has the Ambient Light Correction feature that works within the Easy-PhotoPrint Pro plug-in software, or can be run through your Photoshop software. The 9500 has two paper paths including a front feeder for heavyweight paper types, and a rear feader for multiple print loading. Semi gloss and the Fine Art Matte papers seem to produce the best results, however the glossy prints which I had read horrible reviews about with this printer, are quite good as well in my opinion, and I'm pretty picky about my prints. Most importantly, as with any printer, if you want good results, buy good paper.
This is a printer thats for amateurs, semi-pros, or pros, but you need to have a computer with enough horsepower to run the programs. Think lots of gigs, or you'll spend a fair amount of time crashing I'm told. I have an XPS with 8 gigs, so it handles it with ease, but if you don't have an abundance of horses, plan on an upgrade or a new computer to get the performance you wish. That being said, it's easy to use, and capable of giving you the most you can get from your pictures.

Comments about Canon Canon Pixma Pro 9500 Mark II Inkjet Photo Printer with 4800 x 2400 dpi Resolution, USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Interface for Mac & Windows:
The print quality is amazing. Using ProJet Royal Satin paper (13"x19"), I printed a picture of my dog. It was so realistic he started growling and barking at it when I showed it to him! Colors are vivid and black and white is superb. The software is easy to use (I haven't tried the Photoshop plug-in yet; I simply save the file in TIFF format from Nikon Capture NX2 editing program and print).

Comments about Canon Canon Pixma Pro 9500 Mark II Inkjet Photo Printer with 4800 x 2400 dpi Resolution, USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Interface for Mac & Windows:
I don't understand the negative comments I've seen on the web about the 9500 series. First of all start with a well made photograph, then read the manual and apply a color-managed workflow and the results will be stunning. Especially with the XPS drivers. Deep blacks for black and white and rich colors for color. Beautiful!
