This is a fantastic printer. It you are upgrading to a larger format printer, this is worth considering. It is easy to set up and has been very reliable. I use this printer solely for photo printing, and my Pixma 600 for scanning and copying. Both are connected to my IMac. I downloaded several Ilford paper profiles and the resulting prints are outstanding. I know folks who print on Epsons and they regret not purchasing a Canon. Yes, their prints may last 200 years compared to my 100 years, but I'm not too concerned.

Just got this printer and I can't say enough good things about it! Easy to set up & use. Have printed all sizes of prints all the way from 4X6 to 12X16! The large print was done on museum quality paper and came out beautiful. Can't speak about ink consumption as I haven't done more than a total of 20 prints, but the large one had to use some ink on that paper.

Too bad Canon is superseding this unit. I'm glad I bought this one for the price I did!

I'm a serious amateur photographer. This printer produces top notch color with fine detail and virtually no banding. For Black & white it is not the best. It is difficult to eliminate "tinting" It is bulky and consumes ink but all in all this is a fine printer and can't be beat for the price.

Other reviews mentioned the small ink supply. It's true. I have a Canon ip8500 and the cartridges for this one hold about 1/4 less ink, by my estimate. So far that is the only disappointment. The print results are as good as I expected. I haven't tried any large format prints yet, but I expect good results. I've had the 8500 for a couple years and it has not failed to please.

I bought this primarily to make photo albums. I was replacing my old Canon S900 Photo printer and since I also have an all-in-one HP, decided to get a Photo printer that gave a greater choice in print sizes. I love the print quality but am concerned about the small ink cartridges which was my only issue with my Canon S900.

I bought this Canon printer a month ago at adorama.com and I'm more than happy with the pro9000. The print results are excellent - you couldn't get it better from a Lab!
The only reason that I didn't rank the Canon pro9000 with five stars is the time consuming B&W mode - you can take a serious coffee break while it's printing the best monochromatic prints I've seen yet from a prosumer printer.

I bought this printyer less than a year ago and have made over 400 Glossy prints from 5X7 to 13X 19. I have also made over 1200 8X10 prints on Matte.
It uses considerable more ink on the Matte paper but is reasonable in consumption on the Glossy. If any body ever builds a printer that is better for the money, I'll bet it 's Cannon.

[...] I bought this printer to sell archival canvas prints to sell. It has turned out to be a big disappointment. the red layer fades rather quickly. if you want a printer for personal use or for prints that don't have to stand the test of time go for it. I got the HP Photosmart Pro B8850 to replace it and am very satisfied with it.

I recently got this printer after reading many reviews about it's quality. I haven't had much time yet to use it but the little amount of playing around has yielded some nice photo prints. It was extremely easy to set up and I had pictures printed in less than 20 minutes after taking it out of the box. [...] The biggest con I'd read about from other reviews was the big footprint of the unit. Yeah, it's big, but it prints up to a 13"x19" print so you HAVE to have some size here. The printer feels very well made. It's not a flimsy throw-away inkjet printer!I look forward to experimenting more with what this printer is capable of. Besides being very busy and unable to print much, I did find that I need to calibrate my monitor before doing much more printing. What I saw on the screen in Photoshop wasn't necessarily what was printing out. I don't think this is a printer issue but rather the fact that my monitor needs calibration.

When I purchased this printer, I was looking for one that could print black & white, color, documents, photos, basically anything, and would work with multiple computer operating systems. I also wanted a printer that didn't burn through ink cartridges. My final criteria was DURABILITY. I wanted all this at at a competitive price.

Installation and setup was simple. The printer software works with multiple computer operating systems. Print quality is very good for all documents I have printed, especially photos. When you need to change the default print settings based on the document and/or paper you are using, it can be a bit confusing because of the numerous settings this printer allows.

Overall, I am very pleased with this printer and and my buying experience through Adorama.

Comments about Canon Canon Pixma Pro 9000 Photo Inkjet 8 Color Printer with USB & Direct Print Port Interfaces, Supports Fine Art 13" x 19", for Mac & Windows.:

I have owned this printer for just one day and all I have to say is WOW! Phenominal image printing abilities - borderless 13"x19" prints. I was shocked at my first print - it was as good if not better than my professional lab.

Beautiful B&W images - especially if you use the grayscale feature... It takes about 5 times longer to print, but well worth the wait.

Everything has it's downside... One in particular is Ink Consumption. Not horrible considering that I am printing larger format. I ran about 12 borderless 13x19 prints and nearly toasted all of my Photo Magenta, 1/2 of my Photo Cyan, 2/3 of my yellow, About 1/5 of my cyan and just a dab of every other color. This printer should have large photo color tanks for printing.

The thing I could not find out there anywhere was how much cost I was looking at per print. Based on ordering my inks through Adorama I am figuring a approximate cost of 1.8 cents per square inch for the ink. Factor in the cost of Ilford Pearl Photo Paper and you are around 2.4 cents per square inch (including shipping & handling to Ohio).

This means that a borderless 13x19 runs about $4.50 to $6.00 per print depending on the image densities, etc. Considering that the average lab cost of a 12x18 pring is about $10 to $14 wholesale - it is not a bad deal. I was paying $6 for 12x12 prints for flush mount albums - I figure about $3.50 to $4.00 from this printer.

The only other downside thus far is the ability to handle inkpress canvas. It is a little tricky but I figured it out - make the path as wide as possible and delicately feed it into the printer from the auto feed - not the front feed.

All in All - the print quality is awesome. Not much of a shift from the screen image - maybe about 3-4% darker - which can be adjusted by the user.

Just buy one of the multipacks of ink and some additional photo ink colors and you should be good to go - probably enough ink in the initial set to run about 13 or 14 prints before replacing one or two of the ink cartridges.

Enjoy - this printer is awesome - especially teamed up with an EOS 5D or 40D. Scanned images are great as well.

I use it with Photoshop mostly and for documents some of the time. My Epson 2200 finally clogged up and became useless. I wanted a printer that had jets in its head, not in the printer.

The printer is solid and has good print speed. It is very heavy and my wife had a hard time lifting it.

It makes an annoying "clank" whenever a sheet of paper is loaded for printing. I can't seem to get the paper sizes to correctly print out at times especially 13x19. I'm stll working on it. The printed image from Photoshop CS2 is always underexposed but can be probably adjusted by calibration.

Comments about Canon Canon Pixma Pro 9000 Photo Inkjet 8 Color Printer with USB & Direct Print Port Interfaces, Supports Fine Art 13" x 19", for Mac & Windows.:

As a dektop spublisher and photographer I’ve had many printers of all types and purposes. Over the years I’ve discovered that there is no universal printer that is perfect for any use. I now use six differante printers including two other Canons. I use my ip3000 for desktop publishing - flyers, books, business cards and to print receipts, mail and other misc. uses. I like the built-in paper tray and duplexing features. It lets me use half the amount of sheets of paper when I print users manuals for new programs or shareware.I used my Canon ip6000 for photos and occasionally along with the 3000 to make big jobs go twice as fast. I also like the fact that they both can print borderless. Besides photos, the borderless feature allows me to print documents and sheets of business cards right to the edge of the paper. These are the only printers I’ve ever had that can print 12-up biz cards without clipping the last cards on the sheet without having to fool the printer into thinking its using a larger sheet in order to override the border settings. And now I have the Pro-9000. No paper tray or duplexing, but with the ability to produce photo lab quality prints up to 13" wide by virtually any length. It uses the same ink as my ip3000 so that’s a plus for me since I have tons of ink for it.I just ordered a couple of rolls of 13" wide paper so I can print panoramas for myself and banner ads for my clients. I like the flat printing paper path so I can print on heavier stock for customer work such as signs and posters. So while none of my printers are perfect for all my uses, the Pro9000 takes me way beyond what I could do before, so for me the Pro9000 is a perfect upgrade for me.Jim Giordano [...]

I am very impressed with this printer. Terrific, smooth coloration. I allow Photoshop to control the printing, and the results match my color calibrated monitor. I don't have experience with pigment inks, but these Canon dye-based ink colors are very vibrant. The printer has a large foot print, but hey, it's a solid, quality piece and prints 13x19. Plus, with Canon's [$] rebate and with free delivery from Adorama the price was right. What's not to like!

This is my first larger format printer. Have always sent them out before. It arrived on time, and initial setup was snap! It takes a long time to load the CD so don't give up. After set up I was up and printing great pictures out of Lightroom almost immediately.

Great printer, excellent print quality. Unless you are printing lots of black and white, there's
no reason to buy the much more expensive Pro 9500.

This is a great photo printer. My previous one was a Canon S820. It maxed out at 8.5 X 11 and had six cartridges. This goes to 13 X 19 and has eight cartridges. The addition of red and green means the other tanks don't have to create two-thirds of the RGB system. The cartridges are the same size as the BCI-6 system that my S820 used, so I'm used to the life expectancy. The only thing that makes this use more ink is printing large documents, but that is one of the reasons I bought it.

I love nearly every aspect of the printer except the lack of ability to set up custom paper sizes and profiles. It has a custom size option, but it doesn't allow you to specify the size. It desperately begs for a paper roll carrier. It produces prints of outstanding quality, on Canon paper, and is much quieter than the reviews I have read. I'm not really concerned with print speed, but it is somewhat quicker than I am accustomed to when considering the quality of the images it produces.

I was amazed at just how easy this was to setup. The first print out looked perfect and so has every print that I've done. Software is super easy to setup and use also. This printer will end up costing me more money as now I want to print all my files.. Paper, ink.. oh well

I am absolutely happy with this printer.

PROS>> Excellent printer,I have been very pleased with the consistent quality and ease of use. I put the prints through some tough situation, Put them in water and let them sit in the sun ect... with little change in color quality ( this was done with hight quality photo paper and art papers. ) I have to say it lives up to my expectations

CONS>> tech support stinks, I had a problem using the front loader when I first got it I explained very clearly to 3 people what it was doing and they sent me to a canon repair shop and the guy there was able to show me what I was doing wrong he was very helpful and it was a simple mistake that many people make, better documentation would be good too. Uses a fair amount of ink, and it would be nice to have more custom control over the printing. can't do banner printing.

I imagine I would have found the Canon Pixma Pro 9000 to be a very satisfactory printer if it had been a new, factory fresh item I assumed I had purchased.. One of the functions, front feed, is inoperative. Canon, for whom I have the highest regard, after a long phone support session, concluded it is defective and is going to replace the item--but with a refurbished, not new, item.
