This is my first printer of this quality/price range and my first from Canon. I had a slight hesitation to purchase this model due to several comments about it not being good for glossy surfaces but I don't have any issues with how it prints on glossy surfaces and it certainly looks great on "satin" and "lustre" surfaces. Calibrated my Dell LCD monitor with Spyder 2 and the prints come out of the printer a great match to what I see on screen. Very pleased in the short run!

Pixma Pro 9500 is definitely a pro printer. Since I use it only for 2 weeks now, can't say anything about reliability (think that will not be an issue though) or the ink consumption (have noticed the grey ink is consumed more than others - but that depends which photos You usually print (i do mostly b/w)). It delivers prints reasonably fast, very accurate and detailed prints, the colour reproduction is great.
When printing in colour (and if you look really closely) can say that blacks on the high glossy Canon papers seem, well, a bit odd - looking from an angle they appear as looking at the negative, as if the black colour layer has a different consistency than the coulour part of the print. Very strange since b/w prints on the same paper look stunning and the blacks are outstanding - maybe a paper/driver issue. In all other aspects I am definitely pleased with this product and think it represents a great value for the money. The very best product if you mainly print b/w.

Great printer for professional quality prints. Do not use if you plan to use glossy paper. The pro9500 was not made for glossy, so dont expect good prints if you do use glossy a lot. I recommend using ilford gallerie smooth pearl paper. With the ilford paper, prints are of lab quality. Color is very accurate straight out of the box. Im sure it has to do with the canon workflow that they have created to use with all their products. I only used outside labs to print my photos, but with the pro9500 i have changed my mind. I never knew an inkjet printer could create such stunning prints. Im glad i purchased this printer.
