Works fine VERY SLOW
By JRTEXASVerified Reviewer from Houston, TX on 9/12/2009

Slow

Comments about Jobo Jobo Secure Digital (SD) to CompactFlash Memory Card Adapter:

PROs: it works, it is now possible to use cheaper SD/SDHC instead of expensive CF (2 to 3 x cheaper).
CONs: it is extremely slow: using a class 6 SD, my 5Dmk2 takes for ever to write 21 Mpixels RAW pictures, HD video is impossible: records only for 6 sec. (=camera buffer).
CONCLUSION:
- for serious photographers: solution when running out of CF, one shot at the time, no video.
- for casual photographers (high compression JPEG): a way to save money and to have only one type of card(SD) but transfering/saving photos will take time.

Using, as I do, digicams which need both SD and CF cards- having the adapter saves me time, and money. I pop an 8G SD card in and I'm good to go with my DSLR and just as ready with my smaller compacts. VRR

Comments about Jobo Jobo Secure Digital (SD) to CompactFlash Memory Card Adapter:

It a good, robust product, that serves its purpose well. However, once an sd card has been formated as a cf, normal sd card readers will not find the card, it must be used with adapter to work. Once I figured that out, it worked as expected.

Comments about Jobo Jobo Secure Digital (SD) to CompactFlash Memory Card Adapter:

Works on Canon 40D, Nikon D300 and Canon 5D Mark II. Does not work with Canon 5D, but the 5D has problems with 8 gig CF cards as well.

Allows me to use much cheaper 16 gig SD cards, but is proving a little slow with the 5D Mark II taking photos and will NOT work with Video. Makes it much easier to put photos on my laptop because I don't need an adapter anymore.

For my other cameras I have had no problems but you might want to test if you are a sports photographer.

Comments about Jobo Jobo Secure Digital (SD) to CompactFlash Memory Card Adapter:

The only CF adapter I know that works with SDHC cards. 620 NEF shots in Nikon D3 with a 16GB SDHC card.

Drawback is that this is a CFII size card. To my dismay I discovered that my Nikon D700 is CF type 1 only and this card won't fit.

Doesn't work in 350D (Rebel XT)

Comments about Jobo Jobo Secure Digital (SD) to CompactFlash Memory Card Adapter:

Sorry, folks; the Jobo adapter doesn't seem to work in my Canon Rebel XT (350D). This, despite the SD cards working fine elsewhere, and the camera itself able to see normal CF cards. All I get is a "Err CF" message, which I can't get past, despite trying to reformat the card as FAT16 on my computer, as well as trying to format the card in the camera (which freezes the camera and requires a battery removal to restart!)

Works great with my D300

Comments about Jobo Jobo Secure Digital (SD) to CompactFlash Memory Card Adapter:

The High Capacity version of this card works great. My only gripe is that unless your camera has an eject button, extracting the adapter from the card slot could be difficult.

Don't use it when downloading images to your computer, use a native SD card reader.

Speed may not matter...

Comments about Jobo Jobo Secure Digital (SD) to CompactFlash Memory Card Adapter:

Using the transfer times and file size given by another poster (475MB files vs. xfer times with-and-without the adapter), the straight-SD card xfer speed is approx. 10MB/sec. (what I expected), and using the adapter gave just a hair over 4MB/sec. xfer speed.

Now, I just timed the xfer of 8 RAW images (approx. 59.2MB) from the buffer of my Canon EOS D60 to the UltraII CompactFlash card (which the manufacturer says has a minimum write speed of 9MB/sec.) I did this many times and averaged; the D60 is writing from its buffer to CF at a rate of approx. 2.5MB/sec. Since the CF card should NOT be a bottleneck in this xfer, then for a Canon D60 a slow SD card using this adapter would work just fine!

I wanted to get the SDHD version but I can't find a supplier for it in the States, so I settled for this at [$]...not a bad deal at all. Yes, it's slower than a straight card but it works just fine with my current SD 2G cards and it works in my camera, just fine. Of course, next month Adorama will have the SDHD version.

Handy, but no speed demon
By OregonEyeVerified Reviewer from Portland, Oregon on 3/12/2007
Pros:
Alternate memory for DSLR, Reasonably Rugged
Cons:
No ridge on edge of card, Slow
Best Uses:
Alternate memory storage
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Jobo Jobo Secure Digital (SD) to CompactFlash Memory Card Adapter:

My main use is as an alternate storage media for my Digital SLR; it uses CF. This adapter lets me use SD cards, which are becoming the predominant memory for cameras.

I have not actually tested it in my camera yet, but it should work; I will update this if it does not work.

USB 2 File transfer tests (475 MB of Canon 5D RAW images) show ~66% transfer speed reduction using the adapter (46 seconds for just SD card; 116 seconds for SD card in adapter). So if fast picture write to memory is critical, beware.

SD card sits firmly in adapter, no chance of slipping out.

IMPORTANT NOTE: there is no ridge on the edge of this card; do not use it where the card is inserted flush, or almost flush, with the edge of the slot, & there is no ejector mechanism.

I'd still recommend it as a way to provide an emergency alternate DSLR memory source.
