Don't blame Delkin for Lightroom's shortcomings. Image processing software that can handle multiple cards (such as Photo Mechanic) work great with this unit. It is indeed bulky, which makes pairing it with my non-Firewire laptop less than ideal. But it is a better alternative than bringing 4 USB readers along. It's a bit slow for a UDMA reader, barely faster than the top non-UDMA readers out there.
When I heard about this item, I thought, "Great, someone finally realized the need for a device that could transfer the contents of several flash cards to Lightrooom in one operation. In the past, after shooting a wedding all day and half the night, I had to babysit the card reader until the early hours of the morning -- my work flow is to get the files into the machine and make a DVD copy before going to bed.So I pre-ordered this behemoth and waited and waited. Finally, it arrived and I hooked it up and put a couple of cards in. But guess what, Delkin built it so it's really four drives, not one. So Lightroom sees it as four drives, and you can only load one card at a time. So I paid [$] for what is actually $40 worth of drives, if that, that take up about 10 times as much space on my desktop and requires a separate power adapter, just what I needed with all the power adapters for external drives hogging power. This is a classic case of a good idea poorly executed from the get go. If it were to read the cards as one drive, it would be great, perhaps justified at this price point. The size of it is just plain stupid. There's no reason for this unit to be so large and no reason for it to require external power.
