I use Viveza as an Aperture plugin. With this software, I can brighten or reduce brightness in an image. It's easy to use. Add a control point and adjust accordingly. I highly recommend going to their web site and downloading a demo copy and try it for yourself. I've been able to recover so so photos to make them look great!
