There's not really a lot to say about memory cards. I already owned 2 of these 8GB Extreme III CF cards and have had no problems, so I bought some more for an upcoming trip. There was a great mail-in rebate offer, though I haven't yet received the rebate. My prior experience with SanDisk rebates has been fine, though.

Having a high speed memory card makes such a difference. I am by all means not a professional - but, if you have kids, I can't tell you how much of a difference a higher speed memory card has made in capturing images before the kids have moved on, and the time loading them to my computer has been greatly reduced. Sandisk makes cards of varying speeds. Research to make sure you don't waste money a card speed your camera can't take advantage of -ie
Extreme II is probably perfect for Canon 5D (I got a III in case I upgrade my camera) . The multiple cards have an advantage- if you lose or destroy one, you still have pics. I like 8MG

I know people are hesitant to go with the larger memory cards because if it goes bad or you lose it then you lose a lot of images, but with the increase of mega-pixels it results in larger picture file sizes. I capture around the same number of images on an 8 GB Card with a 15 mega-pixel camera as I can on a 4 GB Card with 10 mega-pixel camera. So if you have a camera with higher mega-pixels then the 8GB is probably a better choice.

I have used many brands/models of CF. Although it is rated at 30MB/s i could only get aroung 19-20MB/s while downloading. Same as Kingston 133x which is a lot cheaper.

From what I've used, Kingston 266x is faster for almost the same price.

Mine is a 50D. ymmv.

Recently while photographing an event and changing CF cards the card I was using flew out of my hands and landed in a glass of water. I pulled the card out of the glass and dried it off, then put it in a warm dry place to dry over night. Too my amazement the card and all its data were fine. How cool is that!!! Yes I would recommend this card.

I go to a lot of airshows, the last was my first use of these 8GB cards. I shot 1195 large JPG on Canon 5D & only used half the card. The shots remaining counter stayed pegged at 999 until about 950 pictures had been taken. I switched to a second card & shot the entire Thunderbirds performance in RAW format without running out of space(533 files). Excellent!

I use four of these, plus 2 of the 16gb version in my Nikon D300/D700 cameras. SanDisk offers a reliable product that stands up under heavy use. I have tried other brands, but, after a few close calls, sold them all and standardized my digital photographic workflow to include only SanDisk CF cards. I have never had any problems with them. The 8 GB capacity allows me to record more than 1,100 RAW image files before the card gets full and the 30 MB/s transfer speed allows me to record bursts of up to 30 frames from the camera buffer without a significant delay.

I've never had a problem with the SanDisk cards (as opposed to some other CF manufacturers) and use them almost exclusively to ensure that I capture the shot.

I had to shop around for a new set of CF cards when I got the new 5D Mark II. My primary concern was finding a card that had a fast enough read/write speed to handle recording long shoots at Full HD 1080p. My second concern was finding a card that could handle taking 4FPS of 21Megapixel+RAW without lag. Well this card met both of those needs without a problem.I think the Extreme IVs are great if you really want the highest speed possible when previewing your images on the computer. But it might be overkill and bad for your budget if you mostly shoot in JPG. The Extreme III CF actually allows you to preview very quickly as is anyway. As a professional photojournalist, size and speed matter. I don't have time to change cards. With an 8gb card, I rarely have to.

With this card, I have never run into a buffer issue related to the cards write speed (on a 1D Mark II). It is also extremely fast when transferring images onto my computer.

I only trust SanDisk cards. They have never failed on me. For the time being, this is the only card I use. Of course I have two more, just in case!

I'm please with the upgrade of Extreme III to 30 MB/Sec.

In comparison, camera (Nikon D300) to computer (64-bit system) transfer rate of RAW files (25-30 MB) at 4.2-5.1 MBit/Sec on this card has exceeded that on Lexar 300X which has, in fact, acheived the promised rate of up to 45MB/Sec (practically 3.9-4.6 MBit/Sec)

However, I have not yet tested this card in sport photography at high frame-rate to evaluate the card's in-camera performance.

Loved the Extreme III. I didn't think there would be any noticable difference between it and the II. Wrong! The III screams when downloading to my computer. Definitely get the III. Makes me wonder about the IV now!

I bought one of these cards while I was shopping for an 8GB card to replace some old 4GB cards that were getting worn out. I considered the Extreme IV but didn't want to pay the extra price.

I've used lots of Extreme II's but had yet to upgrade to the III. When I put this baby in my camera, I was surprised at the fast write speeds. I've since put my camera in burst mode and shot non-stop without buffer overrun several times.

Maybe this card isn't as fast as the Extreme IV or UDMA cards, but it is a steal at the price if you want really good write speeds without putting out the big bucks!

I did some research on this CF card before buying it. The newer version with the 30mb logo does support UDMA on my D300. So far so good. However, the Sandisk rebate is taking a bit long to come back

I recently upgraded to a better camera with a larger file size, and so it was time to upgrade my memory cards as well. Due to San Disk's regular promotions, I was able to get these cards for less than half of what they were advertised for here, and a fourth of what my local stores were charging! I have rarely had issues with San Disk products, and love that if you do, they have recovery software included, that works as advertised! Great Card! I would recommend it to everyone!

I've seen several reviews complaining about SanDisk's rebate program, but I had absolutely no issues whatsoever. The rebate came quickly and without a hiccup.While the Extreme IVs and Ducati Editions may be faster, 30 MB/s has been plenty quick for me (I'm shooting at 8 MP). I'm very satisfied and would definitely recommend this or, really, any of SanDisk's other cards.
