I am a professional journalist. I frequently need to scan historical photos for my stories. Many story resources will ot allow photos to leave their premisis. This scanner allows me to capture high quality images on location because of its size. It is thin enough to nicely in my laptop bag.

Comments about Canon Canon CanoScan LiDE 200 Flatbed Color Image Scanner, 8.5" x 11.7", 4800 x 4800 Color dpi with USB 2.0 Interface, for Mac & Windows:

This scanner has great styling and produces excelent quality scans to PDF of both graphics and text. It is very easy to use with on-screen dialogs for setting resolution, output location and programs used for preview or editing. It is a little slow at about 6 sec to output a PDF of an 8x11 document at 200 DPI in black and white. Also, it does not sound or feel very solid but it is intended to be portable.

Comments about Canon Canon CanoScan LiDE 200 Flatbed Color Image Scanner, 8.5" x 11.7", 4800 x 4800 Color dpi with USB 2.0 Interface, for Mac & Windows:

I bought this scanner to replace my previous one, an LiDE30. It works fine on OSX 10.x using the Canon drivers and VueScan Pro for Mac. Canon's software tends to be a bit clunky, so using a high quality scanning program helps make this scanner shine.

Comments about Canon Canon CanoScan LiDE 200 Flatbed Color Image Scanner, 8.5" x 11.7", 4800 x 4800 Color dpi with USB 2.0 Interface, for Mac & Windows:

I'm digitizing photos collected over a 50 year span - a mix of color and black-and-white. The LiDE 200 will scan four 3" x 5" photos in one pass, or two 4" x 6" photos. 5" x 7" and up must be scanned singly. 300dpi is sufficient for small photos; higher dpi's will not capture more detail. Saving the scanned files takes longer than the actual scanning, but I can do about 3 24-exposure packets per hour.

Comments about Canon Canon CanoScan LiDE 200 Flatbed Color Image Scanner, 8.5" x 11.7", 4800 x 4800 Color dpi with USB 2.0 Interface, for Mac & Windows:

I've used this for copies, scanning images, making PDF and a few other things it can do and it does it all excellent.
My previous scanner is a HP Scan jet 4p from 1995 and uses a SCSI card interface. It still works and is a great old scanner. On my new PC I just wanted a simple USB connection. All I can say is the Canon is one great scanner. If you wanted to save a few bucks the 100 model is the same except the 200 starts out with a bit more resolution.
With either one you can't go wrong.
By the way all I installed from the software was the drivers and the MP Navigator (to use the one click functions.) I use other editing software, ArcSoft is supplied.
I'd buy this scanner again in a heart beat. !!!!!
