This is a great little product. I am using it this winter to scan in 30 year old slides. The product works as described and I have no complaints. However, do not expect to receive the advertised rebate! I bought mine in October when Plustek was advertising a $30.00 rebate. To date (three months later) I have not received it, nor have I been able to get in touch with Plustek. All emails have gone unanswered by the company. Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend with the following warning, don't expect to receive the rebate.

There are faster scanners, but its speed is acceptable for the price and overall quality. The bundled software greatly enhances the value.

I use for scanning film negatives. It is slow if you want multipass scans at high resolution, but its definitely worth the time. This was the least expensive one that includes a Mac driver, which you will need even if you use Vuescan instead of the included software.
