This was purchased as a gift, and the recipients are now happily using it with a Mac. One of the goals was to scan and color-correct medium format ektachrome from the 1950s: the ability to save particular enhancement combinations is very handy in dealing with images that have mostly lost their blues and greens.
Low speed might be a problem for other users, but scanning time is minor compared to manipulation time for this application.
