I recently went on a business trip and took the film with me. Depending on the film processor. The job can be muddy or really clear and sharp with excellent color rendition. I found an excellent processor to do the jobs and was really happy with the results.

I scan this film with a Konica Minolta DiMage Elite 5400II film scanner and then work the image through Photoshop. The results are outstanding. I can easily produce 11x14 inch prints that are sharp and virtually grain free. Skin tones are exceptional. The color gamut appears to be broad and works well with Adobe RGB.

I shot this film on location in the Greek islands. As long as you expose correctly for the highlights of the brillinat white buildings, it does a great job of spaning the full range of intensities with good snap and detail.

A great fine grain film, especially for the enthusiast who doesn't have tons of money to spend, but wants super sharp pictures. I've enlarged pictures to 11x17 with sharp results. Good enough for framing. Other commercial brand film in the same price range or even more expensive (like stuff you buy at the drugstore) get grainy quickly when enlarging.

Closest Fuji print film to Velvia

Action Shots, Home, Landscape, Nature, Travel

Fuji says this is the closest print film they have to Velvia. It seems to be sharp and colorful. I tried Kodacolor UC for a while but didn't see any difference so I went back to Reala because it's half the price. For a 100 ISO print film this & Kodacolor UC are probably the best choices for general use. [...]

Great film for amateurs or pros
By TomVerified Purchaser from Seattle, WA on 2/5/2007
Pros:
Accurate, Consistent, Good Tonal Range, Reproduces Well, Scans Well
Best Uses:
Home, Photojournalism, Portraits, Travel, Weddings and events
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have been a professional wedding photographer for 27 years. This is my favorite all-purpose film, either for outdoors under any condition from sunny to cloudy, or indoors with flash. Great color, slightly enhanced, but still good skin tones. Extremely low grain, it enlarges very well. I also shoot this film in 120 format with my Bronica. Besides using it for weddings, it is my film of choice for general portraiture and I use it for family and senior photos, as well as when I'm just out shooting for fun. Unlike typical "pro" films refrigeration isn't necessary. And the lower ISO makes it work great for outdoor fill-flash.

Wonderful fine grained emulsion, the best out there. Good color palette and on top of everything it scans very well. Go out there any load up with it as the price keeps on climbing.

Best print film
By richachrome from Ft. Lauderdale, FL on 1/17/2007
Pros:
Accurate, Consistent, Good Tonal Range, Reproduces Well, Scans Well
Best Uses:
Portraits
Bottom Line:

This is the film I have used for literally 10 years now. It's my "go to" film for all my portrait work. If the photo lab does it's job right, the prints and enlargements are fantastic, especially on fuji crystal archive paper. I don't know why Fuji does'nt advertise this product anymore. I remember it did so in 1996 when I saw the first ad in a photo magazine. In all this time the film has not been improved upon - because it's absolutely the perfect 100 ISO film. No kodak product comes close. I still look at my prints with amazement, even the ones that are 9 or 10 years old. If Reala ever gets discontinued, I would have to go 100% digital. My experience with this one film is what has (gladly) kept me from buying a digital camera. My prints and scanned film are better than any images I have seen by a digital camera, even full page magazine ads promoting the best (highest priced) cameras. But again, finding an excellent photo lab is very important. I like to get the officially imported film, rather than the "gray market" or "import" version. The officially imported (by Fuji) Reala either has a little picture of the USA and canada on the box, says "for the USA and canada, or, reliably, has a UPC code on the box that begins with 74101.

not worth the extra money
By fercott from Wilmington, North Carolina on 9/24/2006
Pros:
Consistent, Good Tonal Range, Reproduces Well, Scans Well
Cons:
Not vibrant
Best Uses:
Photojournalism, Travel

I have been comparing Reala to Fuji's off-the-shelf drug store variety 100 speed film. I can't tell a big difference for the price. Honestly, I think I actually prefer the color saturation of the cheaper film to the Reala. Maybe Reala will withstand time better than the cheap stuff, but right now I can't tell the difference.

best color print film for everything!
By Lucid Lady from Eau Claire, WI on 8/25/2006
Pros:
Accurate, Color Saturation, Consistent, Good Tonal Range, Reproduces Well, Scans Well
Best Uses:
Artwork, Outdoor Portrait, Travel

I love this film! The depth of color is amazing, and my prints have turned out gorgeous! My first experience with it turned out bright blue skyes and excellent skin tones with no filters, you do need to pay close attention to your exposure and subject lighting though. The grain quality is superb allowing you to enlarge to poster prints(I have gone up to 16x24 so far)and still have an excellent print. The speed will keep you from any action photography, unless you want to show motion in your shot. Above all I highly recommend this film to any enthusiasts or professionals who are interested in art prints and portrait photography in natural light settings.
