A fine grain, pro film. Just not quite the saturation of the beloved 50.

Velvia 100
By Baz from Cleveland OH on 12/1/2007
Pros:
Accurate, Consistent, Reliable Tonal Range, Reproduces Well, Scans Well, Very sharp
Cons:
Overexposes easily
Best Uses:
Action Shots, Artwork, Home, Office, Photojournalism, Sports Photography, Travel
Describe Yourself:
Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Although Velvia 100 renders high color saturation, fine detail, and sharp details, it does not have the contrast to belong to the Velvia family. If one was thinking of using Velvia 50 or 100, I would recommend Velvia 50 over this film unless if speed was extremely important. However, the lack of contrast does not hinder this from being a great film!

I was impressed by the colour rendition and consistency after my pictures in Tanzania - Africa. Well saturated and balanced on cloudy days, magically warm at dawn and sunset, catching the Savana atmosphere[...]

tends toward red, esp. when xpro-ed.

the film shifts all things red,
even in bright sunlight.
this was particularly evident
when cross-processed in C41.

Great for nature
By StephenVerified Purchaser from Daytona Beach, FL on 5/9/2007
Pros:
Accurate, Consistent, Good Tonal Range, Reproduces Well, Scans Well
Best Uses:
Landscapes, Nature
Describe Yourself:
Student
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Very saturated and bright vivid colors. I would use this for landscapes, sunsets, sunrises, flowers and other forms of nature. I would not use this for people/portraits because saturated skin tones make people look ugly.

A great all-around film for nature
By CBVerified Purchaser from PA on 2/12/2007
Pros:
Good Saturation and Color, Reproduces Well, Scans Well
Best Uses:
Action Shots, Travel, Wildlife, Scenics
Describe Yourself:
Professional
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Perhaps not quite as saturated as the original Velvia (RVP), but the fine grain and extra speed are so welcome it's now the only film I carry for wildlife and nature. It not only performs well at 100 ISO (or at 125, where I usually rate it), but when pushed to 250 or even 400.
