I enjoy doing "macro"/close-up work, but do not yet have the money for the good quality macro lens I want. I read about this close-up lens on Ken Rockwell's blog ... I shoot with the Nikon 80-400 VR zoom, and he suggested this as a way to allow this lens to focus at close up range. While I have to finesse my distance from my subject to get it just right, I am now able to shoot the kind of close-up photos that coincide with my vision. It is small & light enough to always have in my photo bag when I'm out on a shoot. For the money, you can't beat it!
Worth your money
A must have for those who love macro images!
Excellent optics in this macro attachment. Clarity and sharpness are exceptional. Construction is top notch with all metal threads for easy on/off even with a step-up ring attached.
I am very pleased with the close up of flowers I have taken using this lens.
Succesful. Half the cost of a Macro lense. Superb results.[...]
As an outdoor enthusiast who is a realistic artist, this product is great for detail work on many subjects.
I would recommend it to all.
I used this filter on my 70-200mm VR lens and it worked great! Images are sharp . If only they produce higher diopters at 77mm
I have been very impressed with the 500D close up lens. Photos compare closely to those shot with my 105 mm Macro, you have to look close to see the difference in detail.
I purchased this lens because I very much enjoy macro photography but when I travel find it cumbersome to lug along the 180MM Sigma macro lens I have. Since I already carry the 85MM f1.4 or 70-200 f2.8 Nikkor (egads! a Nikon owner using a Canon optic - what has the world come to?) I find the simplicity of taking along this oversized filter to be well worth the effort.
With no light loss, focusing is quite easy, and optically the lens performs exceptionally well. While there is some los of sharpness at the corners, this is negligable and I am always glad when I take along this close-up accesory in my travels.

A wonderful way to turn your 70-200 into a macro lens. I always include this in my bag when carrying my 70-200mm. It takes up very little space and you never know when the opportunity might arise to use it. It's not as good optically as the EF 180 or EF 100 macros I have but then again its a lot less expensive and easier to carry. If you haven't discovered the fun of macro photography - I'm addicted - you owe it to yourself to get one and discover a whole new world and dimension to your photographic creativity.
