I bought this mainly to throw on the Nikkor 300/f4 for macro type capabilities if I found myself without my macros. I have used it little so far but have seen superb shots taken with in in forums and on Flickr.
It is heavy but that is expected due to the multi element design
Comments about Canon Canon 77 Close-up Lens 500D (for Lenses 70mm to 300mm) Double Element:
I have only had the 500D lens for a short time. I have mostly experimented by shooting flowers and model trains. These have come out very well. The lens is recomended for the 70 to 200mm lens. I have use it also with the 24 to 7omm lens and have had extremly good success with it. It is no harder to use than with the 70 to 200mm lens. I am very happy with it and recomend it to anyone that does not wish to buy a macro lens.

I've been, primarily, a portrait photographer and wanted to have fun with some closeups w/out buying a dedicated macro lens just yet.
Using this on my Canon 24-70L has netted me some really fun shots.

Comments about Canon Canon 77 Close-up Lens 500D (for Lenses 70mm to 300mm) Double Element:
Excellent option for getting close up shots without a dedicated macro lens. THis isn't sharp at the corners but in most images taken close up the attention is not there.
Comments about Canon Canon 77 Close-up Lens 500D (for Lenses 70mm to 300mm) Double Element:
I use this lens together with the EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L tele zoom lens. The results are very clear and sharp images. From time it can be difficult to get the auto-focus to work. I mostly use it with manual focus. The end results are very nice!

Comments about Canon Canon 77 Close-up Lens 500D (for Lenses 70mm to 300mm) Double Element:
Rather than lugging a macro lens, I now just carry with me this close up lens. It is easy to mount and not heavy or bulky as a macro lens. It also saves me from having to change lenses when I need to shoot macro. Overall I am happy with this purchase.

I was surprised how well this lens works. I use one for my 150 2.8 macro, and 300f4. No image qauality loss with increased magnification.

Comments about Canon Canon 77 Close-up Lens 500D (for Lenses 70mm to 300mm) Double Element:
Very well constructed, solid closeup filter with a very nice, subtle effect.
Canon is not consistent with their products regarding 'accessories'... This is a pro-series filter, yet includes no container to store it in. I'd understand if I purchased a cheap uv filter, but this filter in part of their pro series that fits high-end lenses.
In some items, Canon includes a lens cover/storage container, a hood, a lens bag with strap, etc. when they don't on others. I'm surprised that this filter did not include something to store it in.

Comments about Canon Canon 77 Close-up Lens 500D (for Lenses 70mm to 300mm) Double Element:
I enjoy doing "macro"/close-up work, but do not yet have the money for the good quality macro lens I want. I read about this close-up lens on Ken Rockwell's blog ... I shoot with the Nikon 80-400 VR zoom, and he suggested this as a way to allow this lens to focus at close up range. While I have to finesse my distance from my subject to get it just right, I am now able to shoot the kind of close-up photos that coincide with my vision. It is small & light enough to always have in my photo bag when I'm out on a shoot. For the money, you can't beat it!

I used this filter on my 70-200mm VR lens and it worked great! Images are sharp . If only they produce higher diopters at 77mm

Comments about Canon Canon 77 Close-up Lens 500D (for Lenses 70mm to 300mm) Double Element:
I have been very impressed with the 500D close up lens. Photos compare closely to those shot with my 105 mm Macro, you have to look close to see the difference in detail.

Comments about Canon Canon 77 Close-up Lens 500D (for Lenses 70mm to 300mm) Double Element:
I purchased this lens because I very much enjoy macro photography but when I travel find it cumbersome to lug along the 180MM Sigma macro lens I have. Since I already carry the 85MM f1.4 or 70-200 f2.8 Nikkor (egads! a Nikon owner using a Canon optic - what has the world come to?) I find the simplicity of taking along this oversized filter to be well worth the effort.
With no light loss, focusing is quite easy, and optically the lens performs exceptionally well. While there is some los of sharpness at the corners, this is negligable and I am always glad when I take along this close-up accesory in my travels.

Comments about Canon Canon 77 Close-up Lens 500D (for Lenses 70mm to 300mm) Double Element:
A wonderful way to turn your 70-200 into a macro lens. I always include this in my bag when carrying my 70-200mm. It takes up very little space and you never know when the opportunity might arise to use it. It's not as good optically as the EF 180 or EF 100 macros I have but then again its a lot less expensive and easier to carry. If you haven't discovered the fun of macro photography - I'm addicted - you owe it to yourself to get one and discover a whole new world and dimension to your photographic creativity.
