These are a cheap way to achieve macro magnification by decreasing the minimum focusing distance of your lens. Keep in mind that they will, like macro lenses, make your DoF VERY thin and can be frustrating to use. I also encountered a minor problem with humidity/condensation buildup between the lens and filter one somewhat humid day, but it was easy enough to work around.
