I have always used filters to protect my lenses, but recently I (accidentally) put this filter to the test! It was on my Canon 24mm 1.4 L lens when it fell (sans lens cap) out of my camera bag onto a concrete floor, front side down. Yikes. The filter cracked and looked like a spiderweb, but did not shatter. I checked it out and it appeared that the lens was not scratched. However, the impact had dented the edge so that I could not unscrew the filter. After seeking advice from a professional, I tapped the broken filter glass out while holding the lens upside down. We used a plumbing tool to unscrew the dented filter ring after all the glass had been tapped out. Because we were able to take it off the right way (VERY important if you ever have this misfortune), a $1600 lens was saved by a [$] filter! So I speak very highly of this filter. It is not a detriment to image quality at all, and has proved to be very protective. I'm buying another one to replace the one I broke. :) You can trust B+WP.S. If this ever happens to you, take it to a professional and do LOTS of research before trying to take it off! If I hadn't I probably would ave accidentally scratched my lens in the process. Invest in canned air and the time it takes to do it right. Doing it wrong could scratch your lens.
The lens post-drop. It's good as new now. :)

I bought this filter for my Sigma lens 17-50mm f/2.8 EX OS DG HMS installed on Canon EOS 7D. It has been a big improvement on the quality of pictures produced from this filter because I do a lot of my photo shoots at the Los Angeles area and the quality of air we have here creates unpleasant smoggy tainted pictures. I like to shoot skyrapers a lot in downtown L.A. but unfortunately it turns very smoggy here on the summer season. Since I got this filter, I am able to produce excellent clear skycrapers pictures. A 100% improvement. Thanks B+W.

Cuts haze and protects the front element of very expensive lenses. Allows use of original lens cover, too.

It makes no sense to hang an substandard filter on an optically superior lens. B & W filters are professional quality and offer a great value when purchased from Adorama. I trusted this filter on my 70-200 F2.8 AFS VR lens. It is a great filter on a great lens.

I would not use a lens without protecting it with a UV filter. This filter does exactly what it is made to do. It offers protection for the lens glass in the event of dropping or striking against a hard object.

I thikn that This is the best UV filter I have ever owned! I thank god Havnt had to have it tested but am confident that my lens would be protected but it does definately help with haze reduction.

I have always used B+W Filters for everything that i shoot. I had to order this lens when i got my new Canon L series lens. Even though i got this lens for protection, i would not put anything else on my lenses. The image quality from their filters is far better than the other brands that i have used in the past. I would recommend a B+W filter to anyone who wants consistanly sharp images.
