Comments about Hoya Hoya 49mm UV (Ultra Violet) Multi Coated Glass Filter:

I bought this filter for my minolta film slr. I had begun to use the camera a lot for photo class and decided it would be wise to get a filter. It's hard to judge the effects of a UV filter on black-and-white film, but I assume it's doing its job. However, one day I was lazy enough to use my shirt or my fabric gloves (I forget which) to brush dust off the filter. While I'd expect a multicoated filter to handle that pretty well, even the light brush scratched it. It's still usable, though, and the scratches didn't seem to affect the photos. When this filter dies, I'll probably try a different brand, but as 49 mm filters are a bit hard to find and the filter is otherwise good, I still recommend this filter. Essentially, it's worthwhile for protecting your lens, but be gentle with it.
