Comments about Hoya Hoya 58mm UV (Ultra Violet) Multi Coated Glass Filter:

I bought this mainly to protect the lens. It worked well until I had to clean it... I was on vacation and didn't have cleaning liquid with me so I used mild soap and water like some recommend. It didn't wash off streak free and looked a mess. When I got home and tried to clean with the proper cleaner, the spots won't come off. I don't know if some of the film has been worn off or what, but don't clean this with soap. I had just bought the filter a couple weeks before my trip too.

Comments about Hoya Hoya 58mm UV (Ultra Violet) Multi Coated Glass Filter:

I like this UV filter as it does not seem to alter the quality of my shots. The most important thing is that it keeps my expensive lenses from being scratched by dust and fine sand particles that seems to get into everything around these parts.

Excellent accessory for new 50mm 1.4AF-S

Comments about Hoya Hoya 58mm UV (Ultra Violet) Multi Coated Glass Filter:

I bought this to protect our Nikon 50mm 1.4 AF-S lens. The outer lens element is actually situated pretty far back and well protected by the lens casing itself, but since the element moves in and out (but not beyond the plastic) it looks to be susceptible to dust. So far the filter has worked great in day-to-day shooting. I have not done any tests yet to see if it causes any glare issues though.

Nice performance for reasonable price

Comments about Hoya Hoya 58mm UV (Ultra Violet) Multi Coated Glass Filter:

This is a good product for a reasonable price. There are many expensive filters, and sometimes their prices are not justified, at least to me. However, you wouldn't want to use 9$ filter on your several hundred or thousand $ lenses. So this is a good compromise: a good filter with a reasonable price. It's multi-coated that reduces flare/ghosts. It can be mounted on lens all the time to protect the lens. Good product! I'd buy this filter again if I get a new lens.

Ordered two Hoya 58mm UV filters for new Canon Rebel XSi with EF-S18-55mm lens and EF-S55-250mm lens. Filters fit perfectly, Canon lens cover fits as designed. Purchased primarily to protect lens, but expect better picture quality with UV filtering. Would definitely buy again.

Comments about Hoya Hoya 58mm UV (Ultra Violet) Multi Coated Glass Filter:

compared to the Sunpak filter that I had on my Canon 50mm f/1.4 previously this Hoya multi-coated filter seems to guard against reflection off the front of the lens when shooting directly into bright light. I still have to try this in more situations but so far it's done a pretty good job. I'm not sure if cheaper alternatives could do the same but I'm okay with the [$] price I paid for it.

I think HOYA HMC UV filters are the best choice for lens protection considering its low price. Glare is minimal and the frame is thin enough for wide angle lenses.

Comments about Hoya Hoya 58mm UV (Ultra Violet) Multi Coated Glass Filter:

I got some of these in different sizes. Unfortunately, one of them wasn't built correctly. The metal ring holding the glass in the mount popped out. No big deal, just popped it in again.
