If you value your photography, then don't opt for a cheapo UV filter that your lens looks through every day.
Comments about Hoya Hoya 58mm UV (Ultra Violet) Multi Coated Glass Filter:
I bought this mainly to protect the lens. It worked well until I had to clean it... I was on vacation and didn't have cleaning liquid with me so I used mild soap and water like some recommend. It didn't wash off streak free and looked a mess. When I got home and tried to clean with the proper cleaner, the spots won't come off. I don't know if some of the film has been worn off or what, but don't clean this with soap. I had just bought the filter a couple weeks before my trip too.

Have always had good results with Hoya filters and this is no exception. Have not experienced any ghosting or reflection problems with this filter. Fits snugly on my Canon XS camera. Also acts as a lens protector.

It protects the lens
Comments about Hoya Hoya 58mm UV (Ultra Violet) Multi Coated Glass Filter:
Since I only use this filter to protect the front of my lens, there isn't too much to say about it. It works as described.
Comments about Hoya Hoya 58mm UV (Ultra Violet) Multi Coated Glass Filter:
This filter was bought mainly for protection. All of my glass has Hoya and as I have grown in this I have moved to the Hoya SMC. Great product for the $$$!
Comments about Hoya Hoya 58mm UV (Ultra Violet) Multi Coated Glass Filter:
I like this UV filter as it does not seem to alter the quality of my shots. The most important thing is that it keeps my expensive lenses from being scratched by dust and fine sand particles that seems to get into everything around these parts.
Comments about Hoya Hoya 58mm UV (Ultra Violet) Multi Coated Glass Filter:
I bought this to protect our Nikon 50mm 1.4 AF-S lens. The outer lens element is actually situated pretty far back and well protected by the lens casing itself, but since the element moves in and out (but not beyond the plastic) it looks to be susceptible to dust. So far the filter has worked great in day-to-day shooting. I have not done any tests yet to see if it causes any glare issues though.
Comments about Hoya Hoya 58mm UV (Ultra Violet) Multi Coated Glass Filter:
This is a good product for a reasonable price. There are many expensive filters, and sometimes their prices are not justified, at least to me. However, you wouldn't want to use 9$ filter on your several hundred or thousand $ lenses. So this is a good compromise: a good filter with a reasonable price. It's multi-coated that reduces flare/ghosts. It can be mounted on lens all the time to protect the lens. Good product! I'd buy this filter again if I get a new lens.
No visible flare when facing directly to the sun

Comments about Hoya Hoya 58mm UV (Ultra Violet) Multi Coated Glass Filter:
Ordered two Hoya 58mm UV filters for new Canon Rebel XSi with EF-S18-55mm lens and EF-S55-250mm lens. Filters fit perfectly, Canon lens cover fits as designed. Purchased primarily to protect lens, but expect better picture quality with UV filtering. Would definitely buy again.

Great quality glass that doesn't degrade IQ.
Comments about Hoya Hoya 58mm UV (Ultra Violet) Multi Coated Glass Filter:
compared to the Sunpak filter that I had on my Canon 50mm f/1.4 previously this Hoya multi-coated filter seems to guard against reflection off the front of the lens when shooting directly into bright light. I still have to try this in more situations but so far it's done a pretty good job. I'm not sure if cheaper alternatives could do the same but I'm okay with the [$] price I paid for it.
Comments about Hoya Hoya 58mm UV (Ultra Violet) Multi Coated Glass Filter:
I think HOYA HMC UV filters are the best choice for lens protection considering its low price. Glare is minimal and the frame is thin enough for wide angle lenses.
Comments about Hoya Hoya 58mm UV (Ultra Violet) Multi Coated Glass Filter:
I'm using it mainly as a lens protector, although it does reduce haze. I also found it easy to clean, would much rather clean this than an expensive lens surface.
Comments about Hoya Hoya 58mm UV (Ultra Violet) Multi Coated Glass Filter:
Works as an stay-on lens protector filter. I leave it to add extra protection plus a hood for the lens. No signs yet of effecting the picture.
Comments about Hoya Hoya 58mm UV (Ultra Violet) Multi Coated Glass Filter:
Great lens protector - easy to clean with a multi-coated finish. Creates clearer skies and reduces haze in city shots.

I got some of these in different sizes. Unfortunately, one of them wasn't built correctly. The metal ring holding the glass in the mount popped out. No big deal, just popped it in again.
