I purchased this filter for UV/Lens protection on a new Tamron 70-300mm Di LD with my Canon Rebel K2 (35mm film).
The filter on my kit lens is also Hoya UV, but not multi-coated, and I was getting some pretty bad flaring, so this time around I made sure to get one that was multi-coated.
I can still detect a tiny bit of flaring, but it's hardly noticeable; stepping up to a super-multi-coated filter might remove it altogether.
One thing I was told to look out for when buying a filter is color shifting: place the filter on a white piece of paper and look for any color or brightness difference between the paper under the filter and the un-covered paper.
I tried the same trick with this filter right after taking it out of the box and couldn't tell the difference!
