I like this product for lens protection and for UV protection. When taken out of the package the filter looks almost invisible, but after putting it over the lens I noticed some added lens flare when shooting bright points of light. It's not too serious but can definitely distract your eye from the subject.

I always buy one with a new lens, and it stays on permanently to protect the lens from scratching (and from grandkids' sticky fingers). It makes sense to get a filter that will not detract from the quality of the lens, and this Hoya fits the bill at a reasonable price.

I really only use these for protecting the front element. Honestly didn't see a WORLD of a difference between the image distortion/degradation in this model and the PRO, but I am not blowing up images to the size of my wall either. At 24x36 images are still clean and crisp and my front element was safe while I was at it.

I prefer multi-coated filters.

got this with a canon 24-85, which I didn't realize came with a uv filter already, but a cheap tiffen one. This one looks loads better - the hoya multi-coating is the way to go. No weird reflections in outside shots. When I first opened it up I had to search around and it took me a few seconds to actually see the glass in the filter. very clean.

I got some of these in different sizes.
Unfortunately, one of them wasn't built correctly.
The metal ring holding the glass in the mount popped out and the glass was loose. No big deal, just popped it in again.
