Comments about Hoya Hoya 72mm HD Hardened Glass 8-layer Multi-Coated Digital UV (Ultra Violet) Filter.:

This review is coming from someone who shattered a 52mm Nikon filter by accident on a door knob.The filter saved the lens from damage and prevented likely damage to the front element.

Bought this HD version to protect a manual focus Nikon 85mm/1.4.The increased diameter of this fast lens expressed a vulnerability to impact damage that becomes canceled by the utilizing the robust construction of this filter as insurance.This lens would be both costly and difficult to replace because it is no longer available.

I found that this filter is easier to maintain and seems to stay cleaner than my other filters, even when compared to Hoya SMC. I am not sure if this is due to the tempered glass utilized, but on this merit alone the additional cost is worth it.

Flare reduction and improved contrast was noted and in this aspect matched the Hoya SMC I have on other lenses.

The HD version is about the weight of two filters, but because it is being used on a heavy lens with a motor drive this is not an issue for me, but may be a concern to others.
