I declare, this is the only lens filter that attracts dust the way this one does. It's a black hole, sucking dust from the cosmos and sticking it firmly on the lens.

Seriously, though, I'm glad I bought this. It's good to know that the lens is protected, but when I have it on the lens, my pictures are not as sharp. For casual photography, use it.

For real photo shoots, or really important family events, do not use it. That's just the nature of the beast.

Sure, it seems like a lot of money for a piece of glass, but it's clear and has zero effect on the image. I put one on all three of my lenses.

Bought it to protect my nikon kit lens. Works perfect for lens protection and the quality is the best from nikon. The filter doesn't affect picture quality, but it does very slightly tone down background blurring. Pictures still come out very sharp.

Bought this filter mainly for protection of front element of my nikon 35mm f/1.8. There are no color nor sharpness deterioration with this filter. Nikon's filter are top notch, the glass is almost invisible, are very thin, and durable.

I have read that it's better to clean the filter regularly instead of the front lens element, that way the coating on the glass element lasts longer. Also it's cheaper to replace a filter than a lens. Another consideration is if one casually jabs a lens into a bag without realizing the front cap isn't on, the filter gets scratched and not the lens. I now have a filter on my two (and counting) lenses.

A no brainer when you buy a new lens. The trick is to buy a high quality filter or you're not procuring the full potential from your purchase - and Nikon makes pretty good stuff.

[...] You invested in a Nikon so why not put the best filter on it? Just be careful putting on your lens cause you can cross thread it if you aren't careful. I really haven't used this particular filter enough to really give you specifics but it doesn't feel like [*] and Nikon is known for making high quality glass so probably not too much to critique even if I did find a flaw.

I bought the filter to afford some lens protection without contribution to any aspect of the photograph. This lens does just that. Protection that is photographly invisible. No distortion, coloration or contribution of any kind. It takes the thump prints and smudges instead of the lens. It's expensive but it's clear!

I bought one of these for each of the lenses on my and my wife's cameras. I see no deterioration in image quality and, to date, have not experienced any reflections or flare because of their use. They are well constructed without any hint of looseness within the rings. My only caveat is that they seize quite easily in the plastic threads of the Nikkor lenses. Although I was careful not to overtighten, I found them to be difficult to remove. I finally just made it a point to stop tightening them somewhat before they reached the end of their travel. (I also bought a set of filter wrenches on my next order.)

I bought a Nikon UV filter as well and I prefer the build quality of this filter to Nikon's. Especially with the kit lens that comes with the D40. The manual focus ring on that lens is small and hard to grip, but this filter adds more size to that ring and the metal feels more solid to the touch. However, the multi-coating is a bit harder to clean than the non-coated Nikon that I purchased.
