Purchased to protect higher end lenses from scratching, as I am rough on my equipment. The NC works as advertised - very rarely will it show/reveal flaring caused by the extra layer of glass. They are expensive lens covers, but they are protecting an even more expensive lens!

If you have a verey expensive glass use high quality with it. I use this on my Nikon 70-200 VR and fit perfect.

There has been an ongoing debate about whether clear filters, such as these, can cause degradation in picture quality. I have used Nikon filters on all of my Nikkor lenses for years. I recently purchased two of these filters to protect my Nikkor 24-70mm and 70-200mm F2.8 lenses. These filters help protect my considerable investment. The filters work great and I have yet to notice any degradation in picture quality. In cases where potential picture degradation is a concern, the filter can be easily removed for the shoot.

A smart and nominal investment to protect higher end lenses, like 70-200's, 300 f/4's, etc. On a recent trp to Yosemite only one shot had minor flaring and that was under extreme conditions of shooting a stream near sunset (last light). I took several test shots under different conditions throughout the trip with and without the NC looking for any color loss or loss of sharpness ---> none!!

Optically non-existent, which is all you want this to be. Keeps the dust and fingers away from the lens like any other filter. Expensive, but does the job.

I bought this filter to protect my newly purchased Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 lens. After spending that much money on a lens, why would I use anything other than a Nikon product and risk degrading the performance of one of the sharpest lens that I have ever used. As for the filter itself, everything about it spells quality. It screwed onto the lens very smoothly. I have used other filters that actually vibrated and you were screwing them on due to the loose tolerances of the threads. Once on, there is no vignett at 24 mm. There are other filters as good, but why bother looking.

Put this filter on a white sheet of paper next to any other filter... you can literally SEE that it is color neutral. Purchased mainly to protect the lens... I'll do color correction with a separate filter if needed.

Nikon makes the best lenses and they don't seem to skimp on their filters either. Based on other reviews, I decided to buy this filter to replace the $10 filter I purchased the day I bought the lens. I can see and feel the difference. Precisely milled threads, crystal clear glass and Nikon's reputation all add up to a solid product to protect my $1600 70-200 F2.8. I'm so happy with the Nikon filter that I'm replacing the cheap filters on my other two lenses.

Excellent insurance against scratches dirt dust & smudges from getting on your valuable lenses. I would much rather have to clean this filter than cleaning the lens and risking micro scratches on the lens. I also like the fact that it has a good size rim to it so I can keep my filter on the lens at all times (THE LENS CAP FITS REAL NICELY ON THE RIM OF THIS FILTER.)

No appreciable increase in ghosting or flair and I could not discern any decrease in image quality when using this protective filter. High quality comes at a price but relative to the cost of the lenses --they are worth it for me.

The only optically "...invisible..." lens protector I've found yet; with a fortune in NIKON lenses, spend a coupla bucks on the best clear lens cover, and it's coated to boot

I always put these type of filters on my Nikon lenses. This one protects my 80-400 lens. While the Nikon filters cost more than other brands I've always felt it is worth it (why spend the money to buy a great Nikon lens and put a cheap filter on it).
