I needed something to protect my 50mm 1.8 and this was the ticket. I have shot images with this on my lens, and off of it, and I can't tell the difference. It does what it is designed to do and keeps dirt and everything else off of the glass. It got hit by a basketball while I was shooting a game and held up. If you want your lens to last then you need one of these.

I protect all my lenses with UV Filters. A must for protection and easy to clean. Much easier to replace than alens.

I bought this filter for my Nikon 50mm 1.8 AF-D, I noticed some large splotches of blue light glare on my images, I thought it was a problem with the lens. After some research I learned that with the 50mm's recessed front element, using a filter actually causes some optical abnormalities if you don't use a proper hood.

You either need to not use a filter and make extra care of dirt, or buy a hood in addition to the filter. I chose the former. The recessed design provides enough protection from flare/bumping for me, and I like the compactness of the 50mm.

It's not the product's fault, and I have some old Nikon AI-S lenses I will be able to now use with my D7000 and they all accept 52mm filters, though, so no loss.

This filter was recommended to me by a professional to protect my expensive lens. The idea is it keeps the lens clean and helps with knocks and bumps. If broken, the Tiffen is "supposed" to stay in one piece to make clean up easier.

This adds so much POP to my photos. There is not a need for even much digital processing to boost colors with this on the lens. The photos are crisp, clear, and vibrant. I use this on my DSLR, not a camcorder.

I got two of these to protect the two lenses that I purchased. Keeps dust, twigs, kids' fingers etc. off the lens. I would rather replace an inexpensive UV lens filter than a pricey lens should something strike the camera. One of the lens filters rattles a bit when shaken as if the glass isn't quite secure but once on the lens it works fine. The other one is perfectly secure. Both work just as one would expect.

Anyone who owns an SLR must have these lens filters. You'd be crazy not to protect your lens investments. Plus filter out the bad rays so your picture is crisp.

Even though the UV filters seem clear with the naked eye, they can really make a difference on some pictures. I use Tiffen UV filters on ALL my lenses mostly to protect them. They are a great investment.

I bought it for the purpose of protecting the lens and nothing more. It serves its purpose. I did notice in an evening shoot, some reflections on the glass from nearby street lamps. When I removed the filter, it went away. A lens hood may reduce/eliminate that effect, but I haven't tried it.

I bought this mainly as a lens protector. I take a lot of pictures near the ocean and water. The spray and mist gets on this and not my lens. The sky seems to be more blue with this on but I haven't taken any shots with it off. I do notice some glare when I use it at night but nothing too bad.

UV filters are standard equipment on all my DSLR lenses to protect the lens and to filter out UV rays. Much easier and cheaper to replace a scratched, chipped or broken UV filter than to replace the lens.

I was looking at a multi-coated UV filter for twice the price at another site but went with this one when I ordered something else from Adorama.

Some of the reviews were not too postitive but based on Tiffen's reputation and the price I ordered it.

It arrived with no scratches or other imperfections. The mounting ring is solid and threads onto the lens smoothly. I've used it in varying light conditions without any problems. For me, this filter was a good value that does what I wanted, protect my telephoto zoom.

It's okay. Gets the job done. Nothing to brag about though. No noticible degradation of images, so I suppose that makes it just fine. Not the most exciting piece of equipment in my photo bag. That's why I don't see the need to buy anything more expensive, unless you are a higher end semi-pro or greater.

Good filter. I bought it after I noticed dust being vacumed into the lens of my DMC-FZ7 compact.
So far its been working very well. The UV protection effect isn't very spectacular, but this filter does a good job of protecting the lens.

Cons:
There is some flare when the camera is pointed at a light source, there can also be light reflections within the filter.

Bottom line: Effective and inexpensive way to guard your lens.

If you point this filter anywhere near a strong light source it will flare very obviously. I've tested identical shots in identical lighting with and without the filter, and the flare definitely comes from the filter. I'm returning this and getting a coated filter.
