This filter is one of the best (and least expensive) investments in photo equipment I've made. On a recent NYC trip my camera suffered a lens-down fall in the bag onto a subway station floor. Thanks to this simple piece of glass, I am now about to purchase a new filter instead of a new lens.

I am a firm believer in using a filter to protect your lens. I once had a mishap, and a polarizing filter saved the lens. This Skylight filter is perfect for the job of protecting my lens, and there is no loss of light. It is sturdy enough, and thin enough, I can still use the lens hood with the filter on.
