Whenever I buy a new lens, I'd buy a Tiffen UV/Skylight filter; primarily to protect my lens. They are inexpensive and do what they are designed to do including UV filtering.

Ok folks,
It is a UV filter. It protects the front surface of your new lens from dust, fingerprints, scratches and what not. Don't get a lens without one. Heck back in 1983 when President Reagan visited Berlin I was there. I was standing on a ladder takeing photos. I guess I hit the lens release on the camera and the next thing I know my zoom lens is on the tarmac with glass all around it. I picked it up screwed off the UV filter and kept on clicking. No harm no foul. Get one!

I have used Tiffen filters for years. I take an average of 2-3000 architecture pics a year with a DSLR. 70-30% outdoor-indoor. Plus travel and family pics. A good filter is your first line of defense for the front of your lens.

I liked a lot the packaging and the included information and stock of Tiffen Filters. It seems to have great quality construction materials. And it has a great presentation. Definitevely it will make your lens to look nicer and more professional.

used to protect lens -- works great. Wife dropped camera w/lens attached on cruise. Bent cokin filter adapter and stripped out threads on UV filter. No damage to[$]lens. Old school smart concept of always have a filter on your lenses. And this one is crystal clear.

I bought this filter for use on a 70-300 lens for a Nikon D2X. I should have sprung for a higher quality filter to go on a high quality lens. I need the filter to help protect the lens, but not compromise focus clarity. This filter, while being contructed well, leaves something to be desired in overall optical quality. I compared lots of shots with it on and off the camera, just to test it, and the image quality was affected with it in place. I will either shoot with no filter at all, or try to find a higher quality glass.

Buying a quality camera lens without also giving consideration to adding a basic UV filter is....well, in my mind unthinkable. So after purchasing a new lens from Adorama, I natually looked for a UV filter. When I found the size and type that I wanted, the Tiffen brand name and the low price offered said yes. So what else to do but order! [...] what I received met my expectations exactly. It was the perfect match for the lens that I purchased. I will certainly make Adorama the first stop for any future photo equipment needs.

You need to protect your valuable lens. You are in a special group if you trust the Tiffen lens for your valuable lens. A lens is only as good as the filter you mount on it.

Tiffen filters have always worked well for me. They are priced reasonably and do a fine job. I have them on the front of all of my Nikon lenses as well as my older Minolta and Sigma glass.

I have pretty much switched to Tiffen for lens protection due to what I perceive to be good value. I've had problems with other products in the same price range, but Tiffen seems well constructed and optically good.

I put this filter on a Bausch and Lomb Discoverer spotting scope. It is top quality glass and provides protection for the main lens. You can see the difference in bright light with it on and off. This filter is cheap insurance for a [$] dollar spotting scope. I leave the filter on permanantely and screw the scope cap onto it. This keeps out dust and protects the lens from sratches and damage. Highly recommend.
