Comments about Tiffen Tiffen 72mm UV (Ultra Violet) Wide Angle Thin Glass Filter:

I received this filter as part of a package deal when I purchased a lens. I'd read reviews by other users that the filter does not accept their snap-on lens cap. I don't know if that fact was added to the product description before or after these users complained, but I saw it clearly indicated on the filter description. [...] turns out that it's a special, low-profile filter for wide-angle lenses. In any case, all that's required is a special, slip-on lens cap. No problem.

Not a good match for Nikon lens caps

Comments about Tiffen Tiffen 72mm UV (Ultra Violet) Wide Angle Thin Glass Filter:

I should have read the reviews before I bought... but then again, Adorama "told me" it was a match for the Nikon 18-200 I was buying, so I figured it was a safe bet. I'll be seeing if I can return it in exchange for something else. I'm sure it's a good piece of glass, but it's too shallow to properly fit my Nikon lens cap.

Comments about Tiffen Tiffen 72mm UV (Ultra Violet) Wide Angle Thin Glass Filter:

Use this on my wide angle lens. I had this same filter and dropped my camera. The filter broke but the lens and camera were fine. The downside of this filter is that my lens cap won't stay on with this filter. I use a lens leash so don't lose the lens cap but it is annoying. Would recommend this to a friend with reservations because of this.

Comments about Tiffen Tiffen 72mm UV (Ultra Violet) Wide Angle Thin Glass Filter:

This is a good quality filter optically, but suffers from one major disadvantage: It doesn't have a threaded outer ring. hence, you can't attach the Nikon Lens cap to your lens if it has this filter on it. Not good.

Nikon lens cap does not fit thin filter.
By TonyVerified Purchaser from Va. Beach, VA on 5/8/2008

Best Uses:
Lens Protection

Comments about Tiffen Tiffen 72mm UV (Ultra Violet) Wide Angle Thin Glass Filter:

I was disapppointed that the recommended filter (thin) would not take the lens cap I bought at the same time from you with the lens.

I went out and bought a filter that would take the lens cap.

This is my second disappointment out of two orders with your company. Previously I ordered a filter for protection and got a polarizing filter instead. So I went elsewhere and bought another filter.

Comments about Tiffen Tiffen 72mm UV (Ultra Violet) Wide Angle Thin Glass Filter:

I bought this filter for use on a Nikon 18-200 general purpose zoom. It is more filter than is needed for that lens, as I found after purchase that it is extra thin and purpose designed for avoiding distortion at extreme wide angles. When mounted, it keeps me from using the Nikon Lens Cap that came with the lens. The external threads are so thin that the lens cap can't grip onto it. I bought a less expensive Hoya with thicker threads, and can't tell any difference in the photos from this lens, even at the 18mm position. Net, if you are a pro, and know what you need, go for it - it is extremely well made. But for us average bears just looking to protect a lens, it's overkill.
