I got this as refurb (no box/case) when I ordered my lens on the phone with Adorama. There are some "stuffs" on the filter that I don't know how to take them off. The "stuffs" clouded the filter a little bit on the edge and I am not sure how it will affect my images. [...] Another 55mm filter (also a refurb)came in ok though.
Comments about Tiffen Tiffen 77mm UV (Ultra Violet) Glass Filter:
I basically got this filter to just protect the lens. Good clean filter with a little bit of UV protection. The filter came with a little bit of dust and lint on it, but a quick clean with a lens pen and it was good to go.
Comments about Tiffen Tiffen 77mm UV (Ultra Violet) Glass Filter:
Good filter but at long focal distances (100-200mm) some reflections appear shooting directly to light. Recommendable for wide-angle lenses as such as 10-22mm.
Comments about Tiffen Tiffen 77mm UV (Ultra Violet) Glass Filter:
Tiffen filters have been around for a long time, which speaks for itself. These filters are well priced, offer very good quality and therefore offer excellent value.

Comments about Tiffen Tiffen 77mm UV (Ultra Violet) Glass Filter:
Used this filter to protect my L series glass. It's cheap which is great (I didn't want to spend $50 on a filter!) however I'm seeing some strange reflections when shooting at a light source. I will probably have to remove the filter when using it to get a true clean image.

Comments about Tiffen Tiffen 77mm UV (Ultra Violet) Glass Filter:
Set it and forget it. The filter is a sturdy UV I use to protect the lens. Thats it. I'm not one of those obsessive compulsive photo tech nerds who analyze the UV coming through into my pictures. My photos still look great, the lens is protected, the filter is easy to clean. End of story. If you want a cheap filter that does the job buy this one. If you want to keep up with the Jones's then buy a B+W.

Use it to protect my 80-400 Nikon lens
Comments about Tiffen Tiffen 77mm UV (Ultra Violet) Glass Filter:
Like the "review headline" says, the product is great for its price. No play between the lens and frame at all. Great for protecting your expensive lenses.

Some say this filter isn't worth the money, they are wrong!!! This filter is of strong construction and clear optics. You can't go wrong.
Comments about Tiffen Tiffen 77mm UV (Ultra Violet) Glass Filter:
Though the filter came with a lot of dirty fingerprints or smudges, they all cleaned off. I don't know if this very inexpensive filter has affected the photo quality. I know it is protecting my Canon 70-200 2.8 IS L Lens from scratches. I have removed it during studios shoots just in case it does cause some unknown (to me) problems with my photos. But outdoors on shoots I will leave it in place an take my chances. I can't tell the difference betweent shoot with or without the filter in place.

I have the Tiffen glass filter on my Tamron 17-35mm super wide lens to protect and give me the best photos I can get. I always put a Tiffen filter over any lens I have. Some of the warming filters are great also. The 812 is a good one that I purchased at Adorama for Christmas photos.
Tiffen, great products. Adorama, great place to get them.

This is my first 77mm UV protector and I'm disappointed so far. I use it with 17-55mm f/2.8 canon. At night it smears images of lights.
Comments about Tiffen Tiffen 77mm UV (Ultra Violet) Glass Filter:
I bought this filter primarily to protect my lens, which it does pretty well. I have read a lot of ratings, and have come to see the value of purchasing a high quality (expensive) filter for my high quality (expensive) lens. Otherwise, you are losing some of the optics you have paid so much for.
On a lesser lens, I would probably use this filter.

Comments about Tiffen Tiffen 77mm UV (Ultra Violet) Glass Filter:
I've bought this for my new EF 24-105mm f/4L IS lens. This was the first time I's buying a filter. I also bought other two Tiffen UV filters: a 52mm for EF 50mm f/1.8, and a 58mm for EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 and Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro f/4-5.6.
While the other two are quite acceptable, the 77mm is bad. Most probably, I'll not use it at all.
When the filter is fully fitted, it touches the front element of the lens.
Other than that, I often shoot indoors. Any light sources, or light reflections in the exposure are creating weird halos... The moon for example is surrounded with a big and bright halo. Unscrewing it a little until the filter is not touching the lens didn't help preventing the halos.
I'm not using a protective filter now for the 24-105 at all. I'll consider buying a Hoya or B&W later.

This is primarily used to protect the lens. I live in Va. Beach and take lots of pictures neat the water. The filter takes the punishment from the salty, misty atmosphere; thus, protecting the Nikkor.
Comments about Tiffen Tiffen 77mm UV (Ultra Violet) Glass Filter:
Worked very well on indoor photos
Comments about Tiffen Tiffen 77mm UV (Ultra Violet) Glass Filter:
I needed a protective filter for my new Sigma wide angle lens. This was priced reasonably and offered free shipping. I was afraid it might cause vignetting because of the wide angle--it DIDN'T.
I have not tested the optical qualities when compared to using the lens without a filter yet.

Comments about Tiffen Tiffen 77mm UV (Ultra Violet) Glass Filter:
This filter was intended to be used on a Tokina 16-50mm lens. In researching and reading reviews on lens/filter combinations there are many people who have run across vignetting and other undesirable attributes to certain lens/filter combinations.
There have been no problems thus far. Factory and after market lens caps fit perfectly, no vignetting and the clear optics of the Tiffen UV filter help me to capture consistently clear images.

Comments about Tiffen Tiffen 77mm UV (Ultra Violet) Glass Filter:
Works fine at protecting the lens glass and cutting UV's. The lens cap doesn't fit tightly.
Comments about Tiffen Tiffen 77mm UV (Ultra Violet) Glass Filter:
I bought several Tiffen UV lenses and was disappointed to see that one of them had tiny bubbles in the glass. The bubbles are very near the edges of the filter and don't degrade my photos. However, I suspect that the quality of Tiffen lenses is hit or miss, and that some may my have more noticeable defects, like bubbles in the middle of the glass where they will cause problems. I never saw this problem with Hoya filters I used previously.
