Never without protection
By SlezakVerified Purchaser from Chicago, IL on 2/21/2008
Pros:
Clear Optics, Firm Mount
Cons:
Seems to dull color
Best Uses:
Lens Protection, UV Protection
Describe Yourself:
Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

OK, so I would do it without protection, but for the most part, the filter stays on my lens for protection. I take it off when I feel the environment warrants it and I want nothing between my lens and the photograph. The dull color con is for cloudy outside shots, and it's pretty minor.

Limited Use
By camera bugVerified Purchaser from near Austin on 1/23/2008
Pros:
Clear Optics, Firm Mount
Describe Yourself:

Use of subject Tiffen UV filter with Nikon 12-24 WA Zoom prohibits use of original Nikon lens cover. Very irritating that this was not disclosed before purchase. Other covers work without tunnel vision. Tiffen design could be improved.

Lens cap attachment problem
By DazzaVerified Purchaser from Australia on 1/23/2008
Cons:
Can't use your lens cap
Best Uses:
Lens Protection, UV Protection
Describe Yourself:
Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I use the filter on my Nikkor 17-55mm f2.8 lens and it seems fine but it is impossible to attach the lens cap to the filter because the flange is too small.

Caution when buying this product
By JoeVerified Purchaser from Louisiana on 1/21/2008
Pros:
Clear Optics
Cons:
Lens cap will not stay on
Best Uses:
Lens Protection
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

As with most wide angle filters, len cap will
not stay on. There are no front threads for
the cap to grip. Also you will not find a
slip-on cap that will fit either.

I agree with the previous review. If you are going to leave the filter on your lens, forget it. The lens cap will not stay attached to this filter.

Bad item
By BirkirVerified Reviewer from Reykjav?k, Iceland on 4/23/2007
Pros:
Clear Optics, Firm Mount
Cons:
Lenscap doesnt fit
Best Uses:
Lens Protection, UV Protection
Describe Yourself:
Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This filter does not allow you to use a lens cap on the filter. Which in my case was the whole point, to buy a filter use as an protective filter for my 17-40 4L lens.

Now I need to buy another filter
