The lack of external filter threads means no stacking and that your lens cap won't fit snugly, but simply having this on makes the lens cap somewhat redundant and I'm not the least bit interested in stacking filters.

This filter came as a kit with a Tokina 12-24mm lens that I purchased. The first beautiful autumn day I was out taking pictures. The added flare (with or without the lens hood) was unpleasant so I removed the filter and had better results without it. I purchased my old standby favorite - Nikon NC Clear filter - and am much happier. The Tiffen filter wasn't worth the savings. Not recommended unless you are on a tight budget.

Be aware if you use this filter for a Tokina lens. The lens cap will not fit snugly on the filter.

I bought this for a Sigma 10-22mm. The bezel is not built deep enough-the lip for holding on the lens cap is so shallow that the slightest tap and the cap pops off. I tried this with a canon lens cap and had the same effect. This came with a kit so returning it made no sense.

I'm sure it's a quality filter, I use plenty of Tiffen UV filters. However, when it's on your lens, you can't put a lens cap on. It is so thin they omitted the lip that the lens cap normally clicks onto. For me, that makes the filter useless.

I use this on an ultra-wide (11-16mm) lens where it is critical. I have always trusted the name of Tiffin to mean quality.

Filter mounts easily to camera. It also prevents the lens cap from fitting back on the camera. So if you don't use your lens cover, no problem. I chose to take the filter off.

excellent optics and uv protection but this, and all wide angle,thin glass, filters, have no front threads to hold the lens cap on. you must get a push on cap to protect the filter. for this 77mm filter, i got an 80mm od push on cap from b+w at adorama.

I am not very fond of this fiter, as the lens cap now can not be installed on it. I have never seen a filter that would not acomodate the lens cap. It also is not threaded (wich is probably the reson for the prior problem), so stacking filters is not possible with it I know you should not stack filters, but sometimes it is a necesary evil for certain effects and settings).

For [$] bucks this filter should have much better design with external compatibility in mind. I bought this uv filter assuming i would be able to attach my lens cap to it; that's not possible. Neither is attaching other filters or cokin's filter system. Major design flaw and major waste of money.

Works as it's supposed to. Be warned that this filter, and i'm sure any other thin filter doe's not work well with a lens cap. There's just not much for it to bite on. I ended up buying an after market cap to replace the Canon one because it grabbed better.

OK, so I would do it without protection, but for the most part, the filter stays on my lens for protection. I take it off when I feel the environment warrants it and I want nothing between my lens and the photograph. The dull color con is for cloudy outside shots, and it's pretty minor.

Use of subject Tiffen UV filter with Nikon 12-24 WA Zoom prohibits use of original Nikon lens cover. Very irritating that this was not disclosed before purchase. Other covers work without tunnel vision. Tiffen design could be improved.

I use the filter on my Nikkor 17-55mm f2.8 lens and it seems fine but it is impossible to attach the lens cap to the filter because the flange is too small.

As with most wide angle filters,len cap will
not stay on. There are no front threads for
the cap to grip. Also you will not find a
slip-on cap that will fit either.

I agree with the previous review. If you are going to leave the filter on your lens, forget it. The lens cap will not stay attached to this filter.

This filter does not allow you to use a lens cap on the filter. Which in my case was the whole point, to buy a filter use as an protective filter for my 17-40 4L lens.
