I have found this flash to perform very well. Recently I found myself shooting pictures at a knife show indoors with terrbile lighting , the 430 EXII performed better than expected. I was able to bounce the light off of the ceilings and far walls with no problems.

This is my first shoe mount flash. It works very well for portraits, night shots, and macro. I also got the Sto-Fen diffuser at the same time which prevents the flash from bleaching out close faces. It has expanded my creative options.
I've seen other flashes that can be triggered by the on camera flash, but this one does not have that ability.

It's great!! Nice unit and does the job. Comes with it's own protective case and a little desktop stand too. If you don't need the 580EX II, this is a great unit for the money.

How I lived three years using the pop up flash on my Canon Rebel is beyond me. I finally got around to buying the 430 EX II and the results of my flash photography are so much improved that I am kicking myself for not buying it sooner. I just photographed my nephews Christening with awesome results both in the large high ceiling church as well at his home. Yes the camera is now heavier but not by much and the results are worth it.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:
This is a near-perfect flash for the hobbyist/enthusiast who needs more than the 220EX, but doesn't need the extra features (mostly directed toward studio use) of the 580EX II and its larger size and higher cost. This is really the maximum size flash I would want on a walk around camera, and it also fits nicely in my camera bag. The auto features practically ensure a perfect fill-flash or night-time photo. I am now experimenting with it for macro shots with a sto-fen diffuser and the flash set to a manual low power. The only derogitory thing I can say is the pan/tilt stops allow a bit of play instead of a firm stop at the desired setting. The entire flash will even turn a little side-to-side when locked in the hot-shoe of my 40D. I am used to the tighter tolerances Canon used in the 1980's, and really notice the slop in today's products.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:
This is a very good flash unit for someone who is making a first step up from the on-camera flash. There is a little bit of a learning curve to use it effectively, but even sticking with just E-TTL give noticeably better results. Using an omni-bounce, my indoor portraits look much more natural and flattering.
The one downside is its weight compared to my XTi and the relatively light lenses I have. The flash overbalances the camera, so when wearing the camera around your neck, it always points down. I imagine it would be better with a heavier camera/lens.

I bought this flash to use with my digital Rebel xt. I wish I would have bought this accessory sooner, as it has made a big difference in my photos. The only criticism I have is that it seems to eat through AA batteries in just a short time.

Pictures are much brighter when taken inside. Great addition to my camera equipment. I have noticed a vast improvemnet in all my pictures when using this flash. I bought it on the recommendation of my son who has the same one and have not been disappointed.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:
I bought this flash because a friend of mine wanted some portraits done, and while I'm no professional she trusted that I could do the job. While ideally I'd like to use good studio lighting, it wasn't an option. The on-camera flash is essentially useless so I'd been eying up a speedlite. With a little improvising and using both the avilable light and my new flash, the lighting on the pictures came out great. They key is to do as much reading up and practicing with it as you can if you're not familiar with this type of flash. pointing it straight toward someone in a dark room, or even straight at the ceiling, is not going to give you flattering lighting. With this flash you can turn it and angle it and bounce the light off surrounding surfaces in order to get a well lit subject. I used manual settings and found the flash was very easy to use. I'm glad I bought this flash and would definitely recommend it.

I bought this unit because my old one (380EX) is demanding high correction to compensate the age (and number of firings). Easy to use, good information on back panel. No complaints.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:
The first week I had this flash I let a friend shoot with it. Not paying attention, they took a lot of frames. The next day I had a shoot of my own and the batteries did half way through the shoot. I love having the flash, but needless to say, I'd recommend some good quality rechargeables.
Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:
This was so easy to start using I couldn't believe it. I have seen a lot written about the price of this flash but you get what you pay for,and this is worth every dime you spend. I will buy some more of them to use with a pocket wizard. It's so easy to put in your hot shoe even a old fart like me can do it.Love it

I was getting a lot of dark pictures but with this speedlite my pictures are much brighter. Well worth the money spent. My son has the exact same one and was always bragging about it so I decided to get one for myself. I am glad I did.

I'm getting very good results with this flash. I love the range and I'm getting true color results, not washed out. I wish it didn't go through rechargeable batteries so quickly, and it could be a little smaller and more transportable. Highly recomended overall!

Using 3 Canon Flashes with soft boxes and the Pocket Wizards for Canon Flashes, you can produce some nice studio photos. With the portablity one can take them on site and are capable of lighting large rooms....again controling the output of each from your Canon camera.

Much better than my 420 - easier to connect.
Unfortunatley, I had to get new Sto-Fen diffusers, went for the Gary Fong stuff this time.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:
I bought this due to some poor shots with my fast primes. Sometimes even f/1.4 is not enough! The 420EX II is a great flash. I usually use it for fill lighting. There is no comparison between the pop up flash on your DSLR and a speedlight. The results can be amazing and relatively easy to achieve. Highly recommended for anyone who is not satisfied with their pop up flash. It does add some weight to your camera, but that is to be expected.
Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:
The first time I attached this flash to my camera, it didn't work. Then, I discovered I had inserted it backwards. After turning it around the right way, it still didn't work. Then, I discovered I hadn't turned it on. After turning it on, it still didn't work. Then, I discovered I hadn't properly turned the locking collar. OK - I know I sound like an idiot - my point is, the flash works well and didn't seem the worse for wear in the hands of a complete novice.
Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:
I tend to avoid using flash (mostly shoot outdoors) but when I need something stronger than on-camera unit (rebel xsi)this does the job nicely. Comes with quality padded case. Also purchased Sto-fen Omni Bounce due to high recommendations, and am happy with it. My experience with Adorama has been great!

I love the smaller size (as compared to the 580EX II).
Recycles very quickly.
The new hotshoe mount is nice too.
I still do not like the buttons on this model. They are not as easy to use as the 580's.

I'm quite angry that I didn't reasearch this more, I could have saved myself [$]and gotten the 430EX I. I went with the 430EXII based on the specs here on Adorama, that said it rotated 180 both ways, which it doesn't. Otherwise, I really like it a lot.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:
I purchased a Sakar 952AF flash unit which turned out to be the biggest piece of junk that I have ever bought - I could never get a good picture with it no matter what I did and yet it is Sakar's top of the line model. So in in total disgust with the Sakar unit, I purchaced the CANON 430EX II. I have never been happier with a unit, it worked perfectly right out of the box and I have not had one bad picture yet. I have entered enough photo constests to know that this unit will give you award winning pictures. Long story, short - Buy this unit and you will not regret it. Best of all, you can buy a CANON 580EX and use this unit a dependable slave unit.

This flash is perfect for the hobbyist, it is quite an improvement over the built in flash. There are many options as far as angle and rotation. There is no color cast and it fills shadows in beautifully. I would recommend this flash to any hobbyist or serious amature for their photography.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:
I haven't used the 430 EX II much yet. It was purchased primarily for indoor family and school events where low light dictates the need for a flash. I don't do portraits or studio photography so I have not pushed the limits of this flash. For what I need it is easy to use and priced right.
Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:
The Speedlight is much stronger and more versatile than the built-in flash on the XTI. My indoor and night photos have improved 100% with the external flash, and it has opened a whole new world of options for me. It is especially helpful when using an extended zoom lens.
