I have found this flash to perform very well. Recently I found myself shooting pictures at a knife show indoors with terrbile lighting , the 430 EXII performed better than expected. I was able to bounce the light off of the ceilings and far walls with no problems.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:

This is my first shoe mount flash. It works very well for portraits, night shots, and macro. I also got the Sto-Fen diffuser at the same time which prevents the flash from bleaching out close faces. It has expanded my creative options.

I've seen other flashes that can be triggered by the on camera flash, but this one does not have that ability.

How I lived three years using the pop up flash on my Canon Rebel is beyond me. I finally got around to buying the 430 EX II and the results of my flash photography are so much improved that I am kicking myself for not buying it sooner. I just photographed my nephews Christening with awesome results both in the large high ceiling church as well at his home. Yes the camera is now heavier but not by much and the results are worth it.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:

This is a near-perfect flash for the hobbyist/enthusiast who needs more than the 220EX, but doesn't need the extra features (mostly directed toward studio use) of the 580EX II and its larger size and higher cost. This is really the maximum size flash I would want on a walk around camera, and it also fits nicely in my camera bag. The auto features practically ensure a perfect fill-flash or night-time photo. I am now experimenting with it for macro shots with a sto-fen diffuser and the flash set to a manual low power. The only derogitory thing I can say is the pan/tilt stops allow a bit of play instead of a firm stop at the desired setting. The entire flash will even turn a little side-to-side when locked in the hot-shoe of my 40D. I am used to the tighter tolerances Canon used in the 1980's, and really notice the slop in today's products.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:

This is a very good flash unit for someone who is making a first step up from the on-camera flash. There is a little bit of a learning curve to use it effectively, but even sticking with just E-TTL give noticeably better results. Using an omni-bounce, my indoor portraits look much more natural and flattering.

The one downside is its weight compared to my XTi and the relatively light lenses I have. The flash overbalances the camera, so when wearing the camera around your neck, it always points down. I imagine it would be better with a heavier camera/lens.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:

I bought this flash because a friend of mine wanted some portraits done, and while I'm no professional she trusted that I could do the job. While ideally I'd like to use good studio lighting, it wasn't an option. The on-camera flash is essentially useless so I'd been eying up a speedlite. With a little improvising and using both the avilable light and my new flash, the lighting on the pictures came out great. They key is to do as much reading up and practicing with it as you can if you're not familiar with this type of flash. pointing it straight toward someone in a dark room, or even straight at the ceiling, is not going to give you flattering lighting. With this flash you can turn it and angle it and bounce the light off surrounding surfaces in order to get a well lit subject. I used manual settings and found the flash was very easy to use. I'm glad I bought this flash and would definitely recommend it.

The first week I had this flash I let a friend shoot with it. Not paying attention, they took a lot of frames. The next day I had a shoot of my own and the batteries did half way through the shoot. I love having the flash, but needless to say, I'd recommend some good quality rechargeables.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:

I bought this due to some poor shots with my fast primes. Sometimes even f/1.4 is not enough! The 420EX II is a great flash. I usually use it for fill lighting. There is no comparison between the pop up flash on your DSLR and a speedlight. The results can be amazing and relatively easy to achieve. Highly recommended for anyone who is not satisfied with their pop up flash. It does add some weight to your camera, but that is to be expected.

The first time I attached this flash to my camera, it didn't work. Then, I discovered I had inserted it backwards. After turning it around the right way, it still didn't work. Then, I discovered I hadn't turned it on. After turning it on, it still didn't work. Then, I discovered I hadn't properly turned the locking collar. OK - I know I sound like an idiot - my point is, the flash works well and didn't seem the worse for wear in the hands of a complete novice.

I purchased a Sakar 952AF flash unit which turned out to be the biggest piece of junk that I have ever bought - I could never get a good picture with it no matter what I did and yet it is Sakar's top of the line model. So in in total disgust with the Sakar unit, I purchaced the CANON 430EX II. I have never been happier with a unit, it worked perfectly right out of the box and I have not had one bad picture yet. I have entered enough photo constests to know that this unit will give you award winning pictures. Long story, short - Buy this unit and you will not regret it. Best of all, you can buy a CANON 580EX and use this unit a dependable slave unit.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:

The Speedlight is much stronger and more versatile than the built-in flash on the XTI. My indoor and night photos have improved 100% with the external flash, and it has opened a whole new world of options for me. It is especially helpful when using an extended zoom lens.
