This is all that an amateur needs to take great shots, particularly for [...]. It is a little awkward attaching the backdrops but I suppose any light tent would be the same.

Comments about Smith-Victor Smith Victor ImageMaker, Fluorescent Light Tent Kit.:

I use this light tent to photograph jewelry I make, bowls and bottles-stoppers I turn, and leaves and other object as subjects for later drawings and paintings. got it a couple months ago, and have been using it since. The lights are fairly dim, so my pics are at 800 SO, 1/125th, f8 or so. not a problem for my subject matter and needs. Lint does tend to stick to the black background sweep (i.e. not easy to just pick off by hand), but I'm glad it was included, because many are quite expensive; I'll probably buy some black material to replace it with eventually. Tripod is a nice extra for use with a small point and shoot digicam. Wouldn't work for anything larger, and the legs do not extend for getting a higher angle on the work. I think it is a good product for the price, as I did a fair bit of comparison internet shopping before buying.

I LOVE this kit!! The only flaw I've found is the detatchable zippered window has velcro along the edges on the inside and outside, sometimes things get stuck to the velcro....like my clothes or camera strap. Minor flaw, totally worth the money!

Comments about Smith-Victor Smith Victor ImageMaker, Fluorescent Light Tent Kit.:

I bought this to photograph my fountain pen collection. The two lights are adequate, but I'm tempted to add a 3rd light. With just the two lights, which are at a fixed height, you cannot direct light from the top of the tent which might be necessary for some situations.

I'm not sure how to use the two background fabrics to get the best results - it didn't come with any instructions for their use. I find myself using other make-shift background material in addition to the supplied backgrounds.

I also wish the product had recommendations for the type of lenses to use to get the best results. Instead it came with a general guide to studio lighting, almost all of which doesn't apply to the light tent at all.

The Velcro-on front panel is very useful for blocking out even more unwanted reflections, but it's very annoying to manipulate and work around. Putting it on and sticking the lens through the opening requires so much movement that you might cause your subject set-up to move. Out of the box, it is wrinkled so much that it hardly fits over the opening without some stretching.

The front opening is adequate, but at times it can be a tight squeeze to reach inside to change the background or do a complicated set up of objects. This can be a challenge depending on your build.

The size of the tent is perfect for small to medium objects. So far I have photographed some of my fountain pens, some of my headphone audio equipment, and some of my camera lenses.

Assembly looks complicated at first but actually is very easy. The items feel very strong and well made.

Be careful taking the tent out of the bag for the first time. It is under springy tension and might unfold violently in your face. Probably wont hurt you, but it's startling if unexpected. As far as getting it back in the bag, I have yet to attempt that--might be a fun project for those of you who enjoy solving puzzles.

Overall I am very satisfied with this product, especially for the price, and I know I will continue to use it quite a bit for my pen collection and other random uses. Also, if I ever decide to sell anything on eBay, I will definitely photograph the item using this light setup.

Comments about Smith-Victor Smith Victor ImageMaker, Fluorescent Light Tent Kit.:

I'm a beginner in product photography and while this wasn't easy to set up or take down at first, I liked it once I got the hang of it. With the tent and the nice lamps all in the one kit, this is much easier and more practical than buying all the gear separately or making one's own light tent.

[...] The lights that were provided were a bit weak and I added an extra light pointed down to compensate. The tent is easy to work with however,I found that placing it up on boxes allowed me stand more upright making it easier to get good photo's.
