workable with eos 1n. I just got it so I can still use the rear curtain sync on a bracket. Have no idea if it works on newer digital eos system.

I HAVE PURCHASED 2 IN ONE YEAR,BOTH BROKE AT THE FLASH END OF CORD AT THE FOOT CONECTION.BECAUSE IT IS PLASTIC AT ALL CONECTION POINTS IT IS GOING TO BREAK,(INCLUDING PRO FLASHES)ITS JUST A MATTER OF WHEN. HOW CAN I LOOK LIKE A PRO WHILE WORKING WITH AMATEUR ACCESSORIES.METAL CONECTION POINTS WOULD NOT ADD MUCH WEIGHT OR COST.

Just purchased my 5th one of these in the last year....and it lasted a week before the plastic hotshoe mount for the flash broke off yet again...wish I could find another company that makes one...love Canon cameras but this product is a piece of junk....Not sure what the warranty is, but I think I will contact Canon about sending it back...for a replacement....[$] a week sucks !

I have had several of these. I use it in an off-camera position to the left side of the camera. I use a 550ex with a Gary Fong lightsphere(LS) on top. As lightwieght as the LS is, it teeters this Off-Camera shoe and breaks it. I have finally ordered the "Adorama Brand Off-Camera eTTL2 Coiled Flash Cord (3-Ft Max)" because it looked sturdier... AND IT REALLY IS!!! This works GREAT. [...] Shoe is one has a one-peice aluminum bracket for strength and the bottom plate is removable to be mounted to a stand or Bogen Foot Plate. (small allen wrench needed to unlock the foot plate.)GREAT ALTERNATIVE TO THE CANON. [...]

Very poor design for something that is often used by pro's. In addition to the cheap plastic shoe, it also has a diode inside with a horribly designed connection. The end of the leg of the diode is just placed up against the flat surface of the contact and soldered. This instead of placing it in a hole or other reinforcement. This means that ALL the mechanical strength comes from the solder. Of the three I have had go bad in the last three months, this diode is what has failed each time. It's a horrible design from a company that should know better.

works well with strobofarme for off camera flash
Comments about Canon Canon EOS Dedicated TTL Off-Camera Shoe Cord 2, 2' Long.:
I am shopping for my 3rd one of these. The first one burned out the solder joints on the hot shoe contacts inside the base. My current one (2nd) is inconsistent in firing the strobe requiring frequent removal and contact cleaning, resulting in many missed shots. I wish Canon, or someone, would make a heavier duty one so 1 can use my stroboframe with confidence. I heard Paramount is making one...

This is probably the 20th off-shoe cord we have had to purchace in the last few years for our (2) 20D's. We know of no other choice for a better constucted product with syncronicity. The portion of the cord that fails everytime (and is the culprit everytime) is the part that actually connects to the top of the camera (the shoe)it carries the weight of the flash unit (Speedlight 580 EX)and is made of plastic (not metal) I can't believe Canon is not aware of this problem and does not seem to offer a manufacturer's warranty like any other electronic product costing 40.00+ (A CD player, etc. If anyone knows of a replacement cord that syncronizes too, [...]. I would cetainly move away from this product with an alternative.

Plastic connection between unit and hot shoe doesn't have to support much weight, so it is ok. Between unit and flash bracket has to support the weight of the flash, pretty much requiring dismounting the flash to avoid breaking the plastic. If mounting to a tripod head rather than a flash bracket screwing into the treaded part of the unit allows for a more secure mount. For the msrp, I would have expected a stronger connection. The connection between the unit and the flash is metal.

Comments about Canon Canon EOS Dedicated TTL Off-Camera Shoe Cord 2, 2' Long.:
I bought a bracket to get the flash further above the camera. This connecting cord has been excellent. I have had no problems with it. It is easy to connect to both the camera and the flash and makes the flash act as if it was directly attached to the camera, except I don't get nearly as much red eye!
Comments about Canon Canon EOS Dedicated TTL Off-Camera Shoe Cord 2, 2' Long.:
I like being able to have better control of my flash by not having to put it on top of the camera. It's especially useful when I flip the camera for a tall shot, as opposed to wide. The only disadvantage is the short cord-it doesn't reach very far, but the slave on the flash takes care of that.
Comments about Canon Canon EOS Dedicated TTL Off-Camera Shoe Cord 2, 2' Long.:
I was pleased with what the off camera shoe cord offered me in flexibility in my shooting. The lighting difference between having the cord and not having it is amazing, although, I didn't think I'd notice the difference too much. It sure cuts my editing time down since, with the cord, I can acheive the intended results with my flash "in-camera" rather than "in photoshop" which saves so much time between shooting and printing.

Nice dedicated cord that lets me keep TTL functions
while useing a strobe frame. Allows me to get the macro wedding ring shots with off camera flash in direct or close bounce TTL mode. Very easy to install and works flawless. Great product!!!
Comments about Canon Canon EOS Dedicated TTL Off-Camera Shoe Cord 2, 2' Long.:
Because of the heavy construction and the length of the cord (2 feet) it was difficult to use. Would recommend a longer cord with more flexability. Tended to cause the tripod to tilt and pull on the camera. Have a Canon Digital Rebel.

Works as advertised. Great for using with a flash bracket or off-camera when using a tripod.

RHSP: Try the Bogen 3298 adapter in conjunction with this. It is much cheaper than continually buying new cords!

This cord would get a 5 star rating if the mechanical connection to the flash base was stronger. Unfortunately, this results in the connection problem the first reviewer already noted. Canon got cheap on this design element and did not screw the entire shoe and connection plate together. It is held together by press in fittings, which work loose.
Then your flash starts loosing connections, and you start saying bad things. I have "fixed" mine twice. Epoxying the connection plate to the shoe has been holding. But I have not come up with a premanent repair. Bolting the assembly together with micro-minature (0-80) screws should fix it permanently (essentially what Canon should have done). I would only recommend doing this if you are very handy working on small parts.
If it were not for this problem, this cord should be considered a very good value. It is very convenient to use and the rest of the assembly seems to be quite well constructed. I have used mine out in the field for over 2 years, working about 150 field days a year. It gets a fair almout of rough use, none of the elements (rain, salt water spray, high heat and hummidity) have any effect on it The only problem is the torque of just the flash head on that shoe/connection plate causes them to seperate enough to lose contact. Then the thing is junk. Canon needs to redesign that area of this cord.
Note that the plastic shoe on the bottom of the flash end of the cord is designed to break off rather than tear the base of your flash when the flash is mounted in a flash bracket. These cost about $3 from Canon. This piece will not save the flash if it is mounted directly to a 1/4-20 lightstand or tripod socket. It will only break off (or wear out) when mounted in a flash shoe. I have replaced 8 or 9 of these little bases. I have even had them break off when the camera was laying on the seat with a long telephoto put mild pressure on the flash against the seat back. It is still better than replacing your flash.

I use a pro "T" flash bracket on my Canon Mark 2 with an off camera shoe cord for weddings. These cords break down on me about every three months and there is no way I'm told to fix them. The flash connects to a small plastic base and it's prone to loose it's connections eventually through movement since there is a lot of mass per a small surface area, you'll notice right away when the flash and camera loose it's connectivity. At $[...] a pop for each cord, and Canon considers them a consumable, this can get very expensive for me and my team. If there was an off brand replacement I would buy it instead rather than add to my collection dead cords hanging in my gear closset.

This is a must have for all photographers that own a speedlite.
I use it with the 550ex and the 430 ex, works fantastic, I can place the flash in a tripod stand and it creates such a lovely light, also, using it hand held it softens that "flash in the face" effect.
I just wish the cable were a bit longer, but it does the job and it does it fine!

This is a great product and it has yet to fail to let a flash go off. A+
